Too ugly? Too revolutionary? Was it unreliable? The thought of a 15 round pistol that is completely safe until you pull the trigger had to have been appealing when it came out.

Dardick made the tround, not the gyrojet.

That was the Gyrojet, which had all sorts of issue including the ATF considering it a DD and being made out of pot metal.

That's it. They even sold trounds that were reusable that conventional ammo would fit in.

Could be loaded with stripper clips, was completely safe until the trigger was pulled, fired commonly available ammo (.38sp and .22lr), held 15 rounds when most cops and some military were only carrying 6, and it was all space agey looking.

This. And with a name like Darduck, it was doomed to fail from inception.

Having actually held one, i'd say the shitty manufacture, non-existent balance and 60 lb DA trigger is what did them in.

The fact it cost three times what a Smith mdl 10 did at the time helped as well.

What was shitty about it? Horrible fit and finish? Rattles like an AK?

Gun buying public is mostly men. Same reason the Ford probe was shunned by women.
Figure it out.
Now had it been named Darpus?

Nobody wanted a gun called the "Dardick"??

1st guy: hey wanna see my Dardick?
2nd guy:  I'm good

Made in the same Chinese factory that makes cap guns and little  toy cars.  Not quite as cheap as the GyroJet, but damn close.

Why would you buy that ugly thing when you could buy a beautiful brand new S&W 19 for much cheaper and not have to worry about finding ammo?
