When the 94 ban was being voted on, I remember people saying "oh don't worry, it'll be struck down in the courts". It wasn't.

Was the '94 ban challenged anywhere?

No.  NRA got the ten year sunset rolled into it and they also did not like the profile of the Court at the time.  Better no challenge and fight it when it lapses than a bad judgement that is permanent. .

I don't it seemed like there had been talk for years about bans, then boom one day we awoke and ban was in place.

I'm sure it did seem that way to lots of people. At that time I was watching carefully, and saw it coming. I kept ranting about it to friends, but most seemed not to take it seriously. Most kept telling me I was nuts and that it would never happen. You're certainly right though, about there having been talk for quite a while before that. I think that may have been what lulled some folks into a false sense of security. Who knows. All I know is that being able to tell people "I told ya so" didn't make me feel any better. Seems like more people are awake this time, but lots of people go back to sleep very easily. We've gotta keep people paying attention. Stuff like this should keep folks awake:  http://www.nraila.org/legislation/federal-legislation/2013/3/us-senate-judiciary-committee-passes-semi-auto-and-private-sales-bans.aspx

Yes, it was. The NRA did, and lost.

Funny, I seem to remember them challenging it. I do remember that it was the NRA who got the sunset clause put into it. There was argument that without the sunset it wouldn't have passed at all. Not sure which side was right on that. I definitely remember some flame wars over that subject though.

A court challenge? If so, what was the court's decision?
