My dad found these 30 year old mags in his closet. They were worn down to the bare metal and dinged up. I pounded the dents out of the floor plates, filed all the burs and gouges, then gave them a few coats of ceramic engine paint. 4 hours in the oven and this is the final result. Just thought I'd share what I did with my Friday afternoon.

If you want some insanely tough paint try VHT Chassis and Roll-Bar paint, its an epoxy paint(like appliances ), that stuff is easy to spray and nearly impossible to scratch. I've used it for years on car stuff and it holds up better than powder coat.

Dupli-Color I picked up at O'Reilly auto parts. It comes in a bunch of colors. I did a batch of AK mags years ago and none of them have chipped. Just make sure you prep with some acetone to remove any oil that might be on the surface you're painting.

Did you bondo the exterior before painting when you "filled" the burrs and gouges? They look new.

I've used ceramic header paint (flat black) on M14 magazines along with the bake in the oven routine sited on the paint can. They are some nice looking magazines afterwards and the backed on ceramic paint is pretty durable.

Yours look good.

I dug a few of my beaters out of my junk box. They were left from Mag Ban I. Did the same treatment and was pleased.

With the (remote) possibility new mags will cease to be in the retail market, I am saving what I can for a rainy day.

Duplicolor is the shit I have used many cans and it is very long lasting if you allow it to properly cure.

I have used some VHT nightshades on my bikes taillight before and on my truck, VHT is good stuff.

Those mags look great, replace the springs and install some Mapgul anit-tilt followers to make them even better.

a couple years ago I went crazy with rustoleum engine enamel.
I did a bunch of mags and my AK with it.
that shit was amazing and tough.

Fast forward to now... it's not oil proof...

turns out it soaks up oil and becomes soft
I need to redo my AK, but spray guns sound like a PITA and baking is a no go
I might give alumahyde 2 another try, it was decent on the CZ52 I did in desert tan.
the big downside to alumahyde 2 is it takes about a month to cure.
