I love the no 4 enfield rifles, but ammo is too expensive for blasting.

One of my rifles is a bubba rifle that I rebuilt into a shorty No 4 carbine.  Pretty cool, but no collector value.

How hard would it be to convert it to shoot the similar 7.62x54r?  Would it feed from the magazine?  Would there be pressure issues?

Any one donethis?

You know you want to do it.

I'll mail you the rifle in the morning.  Try to be done by Wednesday.  I'll pay in beer.

looks like it will fit. the rim is .027 larger so just open the bolt face and trim the extractor. Would have to look up the pressure levels and compare that. If that good to go then a barrel swap is all that needed.

Couldn't just cut a new chamber?

Not sure, but I do know that the Lee-Speed was chambered (among other chamberings) in 8X50R, which has the same base diameter (I believe one can actually form 8X50R cases from 7.62X54R cases.  It had a magazine specifically for that cartridge, and I imagine something similar would need to be the case for such a conversion.

.003 is nothing for a neck on a mil surplus. Some of their bores are oversized that much. It would just lessen brass life but I have a feeling he has no intention of using brass.

Hey, a 7.62x54R Enfield would be the perfect symbol for the new Britain!
