What do folks think here about the viability of boycotting tourism dollars of states like NY, CO, MA, Etc...
I have pondered this for a few years. I figured it wasnt viable and a waste of my time.
Now Im not so sure....
I revisited this idea in my mind when I watched Cuomo's State of the State speech,
He stood on stage with a banner that said "Progressive Agenda" behind him.
Aside from the gun control agenda he touted, his main focused seemed to be tourism dollars to NY Casinos, and other vacationing hotspots within the state of NY.
What if we had an organization, partnering with the NRA, JPFO etc...
The purpose of this organization would be to leverage and lobby states not to be listed as a boycott state of our organization. We can lobby like the NRA, we can brand our organization and solicit members who would join and pledge to not spend money in the respective state that is boycotted.
We can put figures together about how many people visit their state for tourism, how many members we have ( x ) the avg tourists dollars spent in that state, to show how much we are hitting them on a yearly basis.
There are many things we can do to keep the pressure on to these states and their legislatures to remind them of the tax dollars lost. We can intervene when neccesary to steal jobs and businesses from their state to bring them to another state.
For instance: We could recruit companies that employ large numbers and fund a move to a free state. There are alot of ideas.
All of this could start off pretty easy with a website where people make a pledge to boycott a state or business and then an agenda is created and a board is established and donations are solicited for lobbying efforts and campaigns are funded to rob these states of their revenue and hit them in the pocket book....
Im rambling. Any other ideas? This is a smart group here on ARFCOM. And maybe my idea wont work and folks here could maybe tell me why,
Just looking for ideas to fight back against these bastards.
Im down because I cant vacation in Colorado anymore. I will not spend another fucking dime in their state, Chicago, NY et al.

So any ideas about mayhem we could create? Or why this idea wouldnt work?

Now Ill shut up and listen ....
States:

New York

California

Colorado

Minnesota

Massachusetts

Hawaii

Connecticut

New Jersey

I havent forgotten about them. Add them to the list.. I think free states would join the efforts when our organization if it were created and were succesful to steal businesses from these rogue un american states. We can hit them in the pocket book...

MN the land of a thousand empty lakes would be the campaign...

It would take a decade of hard work and growth to build the #'s and the war chest to become effective.

"The campaign for American Ideals" or something to that affect

Part of the problem is that they really see us as a bunch of knuckle dragging poor rednecks with no disposable income who don't take vacations.  Their contempt is obvious.  They don't fear the economic impact because they think there will be none.

The NSSF AR-15 owner's study shows that stereotype is totally wrong:  AR owners have at least some college and make a median salary of $75K/year.  Duh, ARs are optics and ammo are expensive.

I don't know that you can convince the politicians or anti-gun zealots, but I am targeting individual companies and chambers of commerce.  Every time I sever ties or cancel a vacation I tell the chamber of commerce how much I was planning on spending and why I cancelled.  They can then lean on their legislators far more effectively than I ever will be able to.

These are the ideas Im talking about
We can present demographics to these states, chambers of commerce, et al.
See these ideas are basically IMO worthless as a single person here or there does or says. But an organization, the size or twice the size of the NRA??? Now you are talking some firepower excuse the pun...
We can solicit our members to notify these hotels, chambers etc... When they cancel a vacation of why they are doing it. Putting some teeth into this and other hundreds of ideas where we can kick them in the balls COLLECTIVELY.

While the idea is good, just like the gun businesses not selling to those states, it really won't make that much of a difference.

You have 80 million gun owners but only 4 million NRA members.  Voters who are a single issue voter based on gun laws is around 7% and that is counting those for and against.  So at best 5% of the people will be in the group of people who might take action.  Even if they all boycotted those states it would barely be a blip on their financial radar.  The effort would be better spent fighting the actual people voting for the laws, instead of indirectly trying to make statement that will probably go unnoticed by 95% of the state.

The NRA already exists...
This org doesnt..

What if it were to go viral?

For instance, in my home state we have had open carry, people dont... And havent, we have had that since the beginning of time, and since our way of life is mostly smooth sailing people just stopped open carrying.

However, lets say TX passes open carrying???? And everyone starts doing it? Now all of the sudden people open carrying will do so un molested, as people will say: Its that new law... as they roll their eyes.

In my state, open carry is law, but nobody does... Thus if you do its very likely you will get a friendly or not so friendly visit from LEO.

Im rambling but you get the point Im trying to make of the psychology of the masses.

There are alot of pissed off peopel out there right now. I would rather go visit AZ now instead of CO.

You're preaching to the people who won't sign u for the NRA because they send out mail. There are four turnings of the human mind. Hard times make hard people, hard peole make good times. good times make soft people, Soft people make hard times. The next step is hard times. Accept it, it's fate.

Im just reading the Magpul thread which is right up there with what Im talking about...

Principle and all of that. They support Magpul but really Magpul is on its own.

If this organization I am touting were in service we could of helped them, we can use them as a poster boy, literally of how we rob these states, and yeah CO didnt seem to give a fuck but when we continue to create a tally of millions and millions and millions they soon will.

You do have good points by the way. Thought I would mention that.

I am liking the ideal. Problem is getting people to stand behind it.
I am a trucker and I stopped going to Krackheadfornia due to not only there gun laws but there bullshit anti trucker laws.
It's time for folks to step up to the plate.
Looks like Ny is on my list, I hope that will change for the better.

I want to get a large group to call their TV providers on the same day and cancel and cite you are sick of the liberal media agenda and are not paying for it anymore.  I have no idea how to go about it.  I have mentioned it a few times here and nobody responds.  I am down with anything that hurts the opposition financially, even if I have to give up stuff int he meantime.

I doubt you could affect NYC or California tourism. A huge percentage isn't even from the United States.

8 or 10 million people and stealing some businesses and I think we can. Its not impossible. Cuomo really went on and on and on about developing Tourism in upstate NY.

I think the idea of boycotting states that are passing restrictive gun laws is a great idea.  I just spent around $5K on a vacation to NYC.  I won't be going back.  Tourism in NYC is a big deal.  Same with the Colorado skiing industry.  And Hawaii, of course.   Think about who you're giving your money to when you go on vacation.  That said, I doubt an organization to try and track the impact would be successful.

That wouldnt be the only function. There is arm twisting, lobbying, stealing businesses, influencing and recruiting more members, partnering with free states to help attract businesses that want to move, propaganda campaigns... etc.

I live in NH and have been actively boycotting NY, Mass, and to a lesser extent VT for the entire two years I've lived here.

I had to got to NY for work for four days. I spent $25 at my local dollar store on ramen, mac+cheese, and stuff like that so I would not have to buy anything while there.

VT has good gun laws except the suppressor thing but, I try not to support socialism when possible. Except Green Mountain coffee, that shit I will go out of my way to get.

What if we as gun owners could collectivly petition firearm manufacturers to starve out govt agencies in these respective states?

As an individual you send a letter to glock requesting they do this. Imagine an organization with millions of members "customers" doing this???

The true impact won't be because of losses of revenue, but of perceived losses. If the campaign is to be successful, you must make the tourism industry think they are losing revenues.

My wife and I were strongly considering a condo in Winter Park, Colorado.  We've been going there for 25 years on vacation.  I've been conversing with a realtor about a unit.  I plan to tell them when I speak to them Monday that in light of the recent gun laws I will be taking my money a state or two north.

It's very unfortunate that Colorado, I'm going to miss boarding there.  As for pushing arms makers, in light of recent LaRue and Olympia's statements, I will most certainly be supporting this business model with my check book.  As soon as they have some more stuff in stock that is.
