Beef up the drivetrain first. Especially if its your daily driver.

Otherwise, you will have a ton of HP and a pile of broken parts behind it.

I've got an '08 GT500 and I've got to tell you ----  I'm worried what will happen when gas prices force me to go to a non supercharged car. The power and the whine of the supercharger at 5 PSI and up are addicting. DON'T DO IT.

My bud made 14 lbs of boost on his '90. Now that car was a rocket...
Cant help with the newer stuff as I have a fox body 89 worked to the balls.
Currently running naturally aspirated.....

Looking at a Brenspeed kit, which is supposedly good on stock vehicles. However I am looking at new rear axles and a different clutch. Also going to go with a Ford GT500 brake kit.

Well, your gonna want longtubes and go ahead and go with a 3inch exhaust first.    4.10's may be to much for the tires also..

Sounds like you've about got it covered then. I'd do all that stuff before the blower. Good thinking on the brakes.

Whats the compression ratio out of the factory?

I'm a boost junkie, so naturally, I say go for it.  I imagine your drivetrain and shortblock will live just fine at 5-8 PSI boost.


My summer car is a 4-cylinder with two turbos running 47 PSI boost.  Whoops most things on the street and still gets 27 mpg on the freeway,

I put a Magnuson TVS2300 on my Trailblazer SS LS2 motor.  I started out thinking I would do about 6-7 psi, but ended up running a 10% overdrive with an 8 rib setup....running a small RIP pulley...I forged and stroked my bottom end to 408ci.  Forged piston, crank, rods, and re-did the heads, and put a forced induction specific cam in it...  With all of that and the pulley setup, I expect to see 14-16psi....which in turn forces me to use a 100% methanol injection....  Also had to change to 1 7/8" headers and true dual 3" exhaust.  I had to change from a 4L70 to 4L80E transmission as well due to HP...  I am AWD, so the 4L70 can't take the torque.  

If you are going with an FI setup, you will need to consider the following at minimum:
Cam or cam's in your case
Obviously a tune for your mods
Oil catch can
Exhaust - headers and larger exhaust dia.
Intake - ditch stock for larger dia
Transmission - if auto, might want to look at beefing some shit up....if manual definitely a better clutch.

If you are going for big boost, then forged bottom end, methanol, and so on....

Else you will break shit lol.

Nice.  I'm running a 1900 on my Ls2 Goat.   Should of went with the 2300, but I got a helluva deal on the 19.  Probably gonna switch to a iron 390 this summer..

I put a V3 S-trim on my Vette.
I didn't use the recommended 3.8" pulley... instead I used a smaller 3.4" pulley. Boost is 12psi.
I also added headers, aftermarket intake manifold, fuel system upgrades and methanol injection.
My car went from a stock measly 340rwhp to 636rwhp. That's almost 300hp over stock.

I imagine those Mustang mod-motors are just as responsive to supercharging... so I say DO IT !

Make sure you pay for a good tune. If you are installing it yourself you'll need to get it towed to the tuner.

Also if you really want it loud the vortech v1 is the way to go although you have to tap your oil pan.

Not unless he swaps the injectors.

When I did my blower, I left the stock injectors in the motor for the ride to the dyno/tuner. Once there, I swapped-in the bigger injectors right there in the parking lot. The tuner came out to the car and loaded a startup tune into the computer just to get the car running and on the dyno. Once on the dyno he started tweaking. Took him 8 pulls on the rollers to get me over 600rwhp. The 10th and final pull hit 636rwhp.

His only words to me were... "Make sure you NEVER run out of Methanol in that tank or you will be in trouble."

I have an 05, i put a Whipple on it when it had 9,000 on her.   It has 21,000 on it now.  She has seen numerous track days, and dragstrip time.  Find a GOOD tuner for a custom tune and don't try to wring out every last bit of power. Mine puts out 455 to the rear @ 12 psi. Best in the 1/4 was 11.90 on street tires.

For my build being a 408ci I really wish I would have gone with a jack shaft instead of front drive...that way I could have over driven it more w/ cog...  Or even better F1D Procharger.....but once you get up in the 1000hp range the AWD drivetrain starts to fail...  Hell a Whipple 4.0 would be tits but will hit the firewall lol.

A screw blower is much more responsive than a centrifugal, and takes less power to turn.  A screw blower also has a much more linear airflow output.  It would be a mistake to put a centrifugal on there.

I vote don't bother.

My buddy's dad recently built one with with a S/C, cams, headers, exhaust and custom tune.  Apparently 500whp or so is the safe limit for the factory rods?  Both my friend and I were thoroughly unimpressed with the result, but he has a 600+ HP El Camino and at the time I was driving a 545whp WRX.  Our opinions may be skewed, but with 500whp and 3600lbs, that thing felt like it couldn't get out of its own way.

03 Mach 1 here.  

With the supercharger, 3.73 would be a better choice for gears.   As already mentioned, exhaust, headers, and a tune are a must.  Get you a set of Nitto 555s too.

That was in my '02.  It was gutted.  At Raceway Park in NJ the scale said low ~31xx with me in the car.

EDIT:  The rods were the weak point on that mustang.  The car made something like 550+ with similar torque, but they had to dial it back.  With two adult occupants, a high curb weight, and a flat tq curve, it really didn't feel like a whole lot was going on.

Seriously though,  I have never had a SC'd car,  but I loves me a turbo.  

The 83 Capri (AKA Crappi) we are running had its fastest 1/4 last summer.  9.79@142!  We are ready to hit the eights this coming summer,  Unfortunately it is time for a chute.  

ETA:  The pic is of an 86 Capri being mocked up for a 4.6 punched to 5.0 with a turbo (72mm iirc).

Glad to hear you are hanging on to the Mustang and doing things your way.
Those centrifugal blowers don't make much power and I think you will be disappointed with the results.
We did several installs of the Vortex units a few years back and every one of them failed within a year.

Spend a little more and you'll be much happier that you did...

I'll keep threadjacking to a minimum.  The car is a DSM ('99 Eclipse).  Back in '08, I proposed the idea of compound turbocharging a 2.0L engine like the diesels guys do..  Most said it wouldn't work, so I accepted the challenge.  And it worked wonderfully.  I built it with stuff I had laying around in the garage.  It hits 40 PSI by ~4400 RPMs and I ride it out to 9000 RPMs.  Power curve comes on soon and stays flat and peaks at 609 WHP and 541 ft/lbs TQ.  And it hooks in every gear (after first) with all-wheel drive.  Full leather interior, full stereo, etc...  Weighs in at a touch under 3000 lbs.  Makes for a fun street car.

I'm all for it in the name of experimentation, but couldn't you have done the same on an appropriately sized single?  Maybe a 67mm or so?  Probably something a bit smaller these days.

I had a Vortech V2 on my 97 with 4.10s  If  it is not your daily driver go for it...if you drive it everyday, your wallet will scream buying 97oct a lot. 10lb of boost and I could smoke them threw 3rd

Most guys that use a larger single turbo on my engine, make ~100 ft/lbs less torque and have a powerband that starts 2000 RPM later.  My main goal was to improve the powerband, and that's exactly where I suceeded.  Not to mention I'm a bit of a fabrication nut and enjoyed pioneering something that nobody had ever tried on my platform.

Have you been to moddedmustangs.com or mustangforums.com?    That would be your best bet. But what ever you do I would opt for the model with an intercooler. Personally I like paxton or Kenne Bell.  You also might check out Brenspeed.com











Any way Good luck and have fun.    My 03 is in the tranny shop getting the 5 spd rebuilt.










Just read up to my post and i see you are already thinking of a Brenspeed setup.   They are pretty damn good with the mustangs here in Indiana. But you might also check into the kenne Bell set up.   They have a dyno and in-house tuner so you can get a safe and reliable tune and they also have a house they let people stay at when you are getting stuff installed.

Indeed it was.  Very cool.  I was just looking up some other 4G charts to compare.

I had very limited experience with a custom twin-charged evo back in the day when I worked as a basic helper in a rally car/fab shop.  It worked well, but it used a roots-style SC with an electric clutch so that it could be disengaged once the HX55 got around to spinning.  It was rather complicated.

Turbo. Most people start with supercharged or nitrous end up with turbo. A little more up front but they tend to be more reliable.

Do it! The 05-09s hold together well with a good tune. I had mine running 11.5s cutting 1.4 60 foots. With minimum mods.
