Add a magnetic lock or mechanical latch mechanism and it could be a interesting solution...

Oh yes! Much want. This might be my next home improvement project. I already have a large safe in a reinforced locked closet, but a smaller version of this could be great to keep a few pistols hidden throughout the house but at the ready in case they are needed quickly. Shouldn't be too difficult to build.
