SO my mother has voiced concerns that she doesn't feel safe on her daily walks at a park near her house. Living in Illinois, she has no option for CCW. What options exist? I was thinking a Kimber Pepper Blaster II, anything else I should look into?

Pepper spray or a taser.

Not sure if you guys have any screwed up taser laws though, may want to check on that.

Perhaps should could just walk around with a zombie slaying blade ?

A battle axe. no one messes with people who have battle axes. Or maybe a halberd.

If no gun then I agree with th Kimber Blaster choice.
Would she get and walk with a dog too?

I almost think in her situation, it may be easier to have the pepper blaster at the ready, then having to  unzip a fanny pack, insert magazine into a gun, and then rack it, aim and fire, all while someone is attacking.

In the order I would suggest:

Big dog
Walking stick
Fox Labs pepper
TASER C2

I'll bet nobody approaches her if carrying this.

In Illinois, an individual can carry an unloaded handgun, with a loaded magazine in the same compartment in a fanny pack or other similar zippered case (think maxpedition bag), this is given they possess a valid FOID card.

If your mom feels unsafe, she should carry whatever she can that makes her feel safe. That is my opinion.

If Illinois is anything like NYC, knives and pepper spray are also prohibited, so at that point, what does it really matter?

Well, I tend to agree, but having my mother not be a felon would be ideal as well. Knives and Spray are legal, so I ordered some 2 oz Fox labs spray (stuff looks insanely nasty).

Good grief.

It looks like it's just a minor misdemeanor to carry one.

I think of all the non-lethal weapons, a taser is the only one that I would even consider for an average women.

My wife has one of those pepper blasters.  You should go look at youtube videos of people testing them.

I don't like it and wouldn't trust it.  It shoots a gel that sticks.  Unless if you get good aim at the shot (not constant spray) you're screwed.  Yes, it leaches into the skin but I would rather have a spray that I can adjust aim mid stream (that's what she said).

I recommend a taser if legal in your state. very effective in most cases andmore effective against those on drugs that sprays

I greatly enjoyed the thought of 'battleaxe'.  Then, I realized he wasn't calling names.

Still, battle axe is pretty cool idea for a middle aged lady.  (pun intended)

If she is worried about walks in the park; get a dog, OC spray and a walking stick.

If she doesn't want to worry about walks in the park, give her some Krav Maga classes. (After a Krav Maga workout, she won't need to walk in the park.)

I would go with pepper spray.  Choose one that gives you some range and has enough volume to subdue more than one attacker.

Yes.  Nothing says "I am serious about my walk" like carrying a morning star.

My mom had the same concern while out on her walks.  My choice was a can of Fox Labs.

I should point out that IL law considers any knife longer than 2" (or is it 3"?) an illegal weapon, and they also consider anything else that is a weapon, can be used as a weapon, or is used as a weapon, to be an illegal weapon.

If you attack somebody with a loaf of bread, the loaf of bread is an illegal assault weapon.

The answer to your question is for her to move the fuck out of that state.  Then the other 40-some-odd free states should fire up their National Guards and burn Illinois to the ground just like Dorner and his cabin.

There is none.
Only a firearm is a real defense against one who wishes to do bodily harm, particularly if the intended victim is an elderly female.
The only thing that comes close is a large and well trained DOG.
