I know there's a few of us here (Striker, GarryOwen, etc.) that wear kilts at formal occasions, but are there any of us that would like to wear kilts on a more casual basis?
The Utilikilts, IMHO, look a mite silly with the cargo pockets, and are too damn popular with the Seattle-type anarchists. This one, from www.amerikilt.com looks to be right up my alley: What do you other Scots/Celts think? Then there's this more traditional one from www.kinlochanderson.com/breacan.html: For most of us, a traditional kilt costing at least $500US is a bit of a stretch to wear more than a few times a year. Now, to look for BIG, FARKIN' KNIVES to go under it, just to piss off the Lefties that have taken over the Scottish Independence movement... |
|
I have been wanting to try a kilt for awhile now, I have heard they are comfortable. I always wear shorts well into winter if I can get away with it without the neighbors thinking I am crazy.
I will get one! I just hope I do not begin getting an appetite for haggis. |
|
G-Man: You bet your ass! It's just more traditional to have AT LEAST one blade with you. I was referring to the thread from yesterday, which was what got me thinking about kilts.

View Quote Well, if yer goin' fer a concealed fixed blade knife, just make sure the handle doesn't "print" in the wrong place, if ya knows what I means. [blush] 'Specially if yer hangin' with the guys, and all, in yer kilt. Who knows. It might impress the ladies. [:D] I was referring to the thread from yesterday, which was what got me thinking about kilts. View Quote I applaud the decision. I'm a multi-cultural kinda guy, but apparently NOT secure enuf in my manhood to wear a kilt. [BD] But I swear, if you start askin' about panty hose, we're gonna come up there and open up a can of whooparse on ya. [:D] |
|
So solly, G-Man, but only ladies, not laddies, put a tilt in my kilt! Jungle boots, not L'eggs, buddy!
With my screwball right eye, big ears, and high and tight haircut, I've always stood out in a crowd, anyway. Might as well cut 10 seconds off my head call time, as it would give me more time to drink beer! (In an average evening out with the guys at the VFW, that can add up!) |
|
If it became fashionable here I'd wear one all the time. My ancesters wore them. I don't see anything feminine about wearing one. I'm secure in my mascalinity![%(]
|
|
No joke, ZOGster.
I've worn kilts for years, but generally only at Highland Games and clan gatherings. That's clan with a "C", fellas. I just sometimes feel like showing my heritage without having to wear a Prince Charlie and all that other crap. |
|
Quoted: If yer gonna wear a dress, at least carry a gun. [:D] View Quote Now, THAT is funny! Who'll be the first? Who? |

I wouldn't wear a kilt outside in TX much... they are VERY comfortable in the heat, but they leave yer gibbles too exposed to fireants, rattlers, thorns, barbed wire, and small vicious terriers.

Black Tie Formal..
Nice shoes. |
|
Actually, I've already done that. I've carried at a wedding, with my SIG 239 under my Prince Charlie in a FIST IWB#2 that I velcroed in. The velcro on the kilt was just basted in, so it didn't damage it.
So do the guys at Scott, McDougall & Associates. I remember seeing them in a photo at their shop, wearing kilts and carrying Mustangs. Their URL is www.colt380.com. Personally, I'm big enough to carry a GM without having to resort to mouseguns, but if you ARE going to carry a mousegun, you can't go wrong with theirs. |

I can seen this is going nowhere but what the hell. But most people by a blackwatch style tartan.{dark blue and dark green} Don't get a u-til-a-kilt or one that is pleated by the line. The first just plain suck and the second shows a different "pattern" inside the pleats. And just a hint... if it is wool and it should be hand sew a piece of silk or the like over the place it rubs "precious." It will make for a better experience when walking.
|
|
A SIG!!! kpel308..when I carried with my kilt on, it was a FN-FAL or a C7! Handguns are for wusses![}:D]

Aye laddies, ceud mille failite. Nicholson of Sgorr A Breach.
I love my kilt, if I remember it was made by Ann Stewart of Cambridge Mass, one of the most famous kiltmakers in the country. Rare tartan, took 12 weeks for the wool to arrive from Scotland and another couple of weeks for production. IIRC, about $600. Add the sporran, sgion dubh, woolen stockings, shoes, Prince Charlie, kilt pin, clan badge, balmoral or glen garry, shoes... you're talking around $1,500 or so. Wear the kit (ensemble) very seldom, frightens me to think of a cigarette burn or someone spilling something on it. BTW, anyone who thinks wusses wear kilts are welcome to take that up with the British 42nd Regiment, especially the Gurkha contingent. |
|
the kilt needs to be worn so that half the knee cap is showing. "second pic". the first pic looks like someone is wearing his fat sisters leather skirt!
i perfer the belted plaid.($25.00 for a king size bed sheet) |

this pic says it all |

No, that pic does NOT, Woodie:
I was looking at this one to NOT emulate the jerksters who have been running around with dreadlocks and a bent on rioting. The Utilikilt, www.utilikilts.com are billed as 'progressive," which in my mind means "regressive." The AmeriKilt DOES have some adherents that would use it as THEIR political statement. I would very much like to take it as OURS. I've always wanted a Free Scotland. It just sucks diseased donkey dick that Free Scotland = Commie Laden Scotland. So, I want to carry MY idea of Scotland around with me. If you don't like it, then I suppose you can either wish me well or wish me ill. In either case, it doesn't matter very much. I just want to be proud of where I came from, and where I am, without having to spend 2 months salary getting there. God bless all here, and screw the rest. Not very Mod-Like of me, but right now, that's exactly how I feel. Striker: George, you know that I have at least one .308 weapon available, but I don't want to scare the sheep! I'm talking about the 2-legged kind. (besides, this was 5 years ago) That, and I want your Mum to still want to make me that Little of Morton Rigg kilt, yet! God bless her, and all that have had the privilege to know her! |
|
I'm sure if you go back far enough, my ancestors wore animal skins and fur, but you're not going to catch me wearing that either. It's the 21st century. Styles change.
The only reason I can imaging anyone wearing a kilt these days outside of ceremonial occasions is to gain attention. BTW, my ancestry is also Celtic, so I'm not bashing anyone. Just the style. No problem. I'll just put you down as a "Not 'NO,' but "HELL NO!"
I don't want anyone to think I'm advocating wearing one unless you wanted to. I actually was thinking along the lines of a group purchase. Hey, I've always done things my way, that's why I need other folks to keep me honest. By the way, I hope your nuts don't get strangled[shock] |
|
note to self, no self respecting Scotsman wears skivies under his kilt!
kpel308, What kind of material is the Amerikilt? Couldn't find any info on the site... I actually saw a guy, guess he was in construction, workin outside in the 104 degree heeat the other day...and he was wearing what looked like a khaki Utilikilt. Being a 52 inch waist, I'd love to find a reasonably priced everyday kilt without having to foot the bill for some pussy anarchists. I'd sure as hell wear it, especially if I could get it in my native McGregor tartan... |
|
I saw a dood wearing one at the bar. I didnt stay long...it was just weird...whats the point? Why would you wear this?...to look 'cool', I think a Star Trek uniform would be cooler.(with phasers and ARphaser rifles!)
just my opinion. Gaspain |
|
Screw "cool." I never gave a damn about "cool."
I want to make a particular, NON-PC statement, which is I want to stand for what Scotland used to stand for, before the fargin' Socialists took it over. Besides, Da Boyz need some elbow room, if you know what I mean... |
|
By the way, I wear animal skins and fur all the time. I have leather jackets, leather boots, leather hats, fur collars, and fur linings in some of my winter coats.
I wear leather shoes, eat meat, and like raw steak and fish. So? What does it matter to you? Not one whit. What does it matter to me to make some jerk quiver when he's trying to hijack my heritage because he wants to be "different" while riding his skateboard ?" PRICELESS. |
|
I don't give a shit what anyone else wears. I'm talking about me. When I mentioned skins and furs, I was thinking more like caveman wear, not modern leather.

Again, not a problem. Wear what you want, and be glad of it, and I'll support you every step of the way.
I was NOT trying to be a smart-ass, I was just making a point. My point may have been lost on you because I didn't express it correctly. I like kilts for formal occasions, and wanted one for casual wear without having to pay out my sphincter, and wanted something that could go with anything. |
|
t don't know, I guess I am to much of a traditionalist to wear a kilt that is not in a tartan. I did check out the camo kilt. it just seems the wrong pattern. like I said I will stick with my belted plaid.
|
|
Well, I am scottish and have worn a kilt before at a clan get together. Felt pretty weird.
BTW, during WWI the Germans called the Scottish regiments "The Ladies from Hell" because of them wearing kilts into battle. |

Quoted: BTW, during WWI the Germans called the Scottish regiments "The Ladies from Hell" because of them wearing kilts into battle. View Quote Actually that was the name they gave the North Nova Scotia Highlanders after they hit the beach in Normandy and advanced farther and faster then any other Regiment. This action resulted in them almost being surrounded and over run. A very very good friend of mine was awarded the Croix de Guerre avec Etoile de Bronze (Military Cross with Bronze Star) for his actions during the battle for Buron from the French government. "Devils in dresses" was another name they acquired. Sorry for hijacking your thread kpel308. Thanks for the compliment about my mother. Let me know when you want to start production![;)] |

Naked Scotsman: Their site (products page) says it's poly-cotton, but does not give the ratio. It does state that the material is "tough," "sturdy," and "rugged."
I believe that I am going to get one, just for giggles and grins. Striker: If I get this job set in stone (I'm not going to believe it until I collect my first paycheck), then I'll be talking with your mum ASAP. By the way, here's my family's tartan (it's a Clan Society, as we're currently a heidless clan): It's basically Wallace that's been toned down to wine rather than red. Ask your mom if it would be better pleated to the sett, or to the stripe like a regimental kilt. I prefer the military style, but it's not a military tartan. |
|
Quoted: If yer gonna wear a dress, at least carry a gun. [:D] View Quote It's nae a dress! it's a fookin kilt! |

those could be nice
I have a Kilt I wear to formal type occasions, but it is heavy, I think it has like 8 yards of cloth in it or soemthing stupid, it is a proper kilt, in my family Tartan of course (Robertson) I love wearing it, but get a lot of looks [;D] |
|
BAH!!!!!!!!!!!
you all be lazy people! If you are going to wear a kilt, do it right. Them sissified pre-pleated things are for damn tourists. If ya want a REAL kilt get 6 yards or so of the heaviest plaid ya can, fold it, pleat it, belt it on, throw the end over ya shoulder. |
|
Man, that one that will hold a six pack of Guinness is the shiznit! Remember lads, it's ok fer yer ta go on the piss, but it's nigh ok for the piss ta go on yer!
Pro's: Comfortable, easier to take a piss while inebriated, easier to fuck yer mom (while inebriated of course), don't have to worry about dealing with a zipper during tax time, and it would piss off a bunch of cock-smokin vegan marxist nut-huffers. Con's: Some fockin idjyuts might try to make fun of you. That's why the one that will hold a six pack of Guinness bottles is so cool. You can throw 4 and break 2 for a little intimate play. What do the British call a Scot with a six pack of Guinness? A Street gang! Gosh, I can't wait for some wannabe in a dashiki try talk junk about my kilt! Hey USPC40, where'd you find that picture of me wearing my fur kilt? |
|
Alright, lads, after a bit of research, I've found a compromise here: A less expensive version of a real kilt, that costs less than either of the "faux" versions: http://www.shetlandpiper.com/Clothing/budget.html
The quality doesn't appear to be that bad, and it's available in Black (Rifle) Watch. I think we have a winner, as it is proper for anyone to wear Black Watch. I'm still getting a custom family tartan kilt, but this looks like the way to go. Perfect for a group of us to wear to a Celtic Carbine Gathering, I would think. |
|
kpel308, by george I think you got it!
"Touch Not a Cat Bot a Glove" Clan Chatten |

Great choice for a starter. Now get a Jackobite shirt and you are on your way.

I can't remember if it was 'A Rifleman Goes to War' or 'The Emma Gees'. That is not to say they didn't call them that during the Normany invasion too but McBride wrote his books in the early 1920s I think. |

Now, just when I thought I had things settled, I find this one from Great Scot: traditional cut OD canvas, patterned after the kilts of the Black Watch from WWI:
http://www.greatscotshop.com/highoriginals.htm A hundred bucks, and a tip of the tam to Scots fighting men. (Used to be, that meant ALL of us!) Now THAT looks to be the winner. Hmmm.. Idea: How about all of us Celts and Scots get together and form our own Black Rifle Watch? I can just imagine this thing worn with a nice black T-shirt with a silver saltire and a harp on it. |
