When watching the movie "Black Hawk Down" I noticed the soldiers wearing the US flag badge on their shoulders. The badge seemed to be orientated the wrong way (the stars on the badge were on the right side). Is the US badge suppose to be displayed on the uniform with the stars on the upper left side of the badge?

The stars are displayed to the front of the individual.  Thus, on the right shoulder the stars are to the right as you face the patch.  On the left shoulder, the stars are to the left. The same orientation is used with flags on aircraft.

There are two flags, one flying each way, for each side of the shoulder.
