As one of the "Newbs" as defined in a recent Topic posted by member Conspiro-Agnew,  ("Friendly PSA for new and low post count members.")   I'd like to respectfully ask three questions of long time, high post count, ARFcom members.

1. Why is it automatically assumed that someone who is new to AR15.com, is new to AR-15's and firearms?

2.  I have owned and have shot AR's since before the first ban.  Does that mean that I should not offer opinion or advice just because I have a low post count and recent join date?

3.  Do you think the reason that some new members enthusiastically start out posting, and then find themselves leaving ARFcom, has anything to do with the type of arrogance contained in parts of Conspiro-Agnew's Topic, and how those new members are treated?

I like this website, and can see myself participating here for a long time.  Granted, there will be procedural mistakes made by new members.  (It's not the end of the world if someone posts in the wrong place.  Just correct the person and move on.)

Also, it's clear that you'd better have some thick skin on this website, and you'd better be able to defend yourself and your viewpoints.  I have no problems with either - in fact I enjoy the banter.  But if new members are treated with the same type of disdain I've seen displayed since my joining, you'll eventually be left with the same group, of the same people, saying the same things.

None of us have all the answers.  So don't close your mind to learning new things from new people.

Respectfully,

Frankly I don't even look at poster names as much as the avatars.

It's that way on most forums.

it's clear that you'd better have some thick skin on this website

ARF is very very tame compared to a lot of forums out there.

Welcome to the internet, enjoy your stay.

First off, don't expect much better than this from the General Discussion forum.  It is almost a free-for-all, but occasionally does get moments of greatness.

The team forum is generally much better than GD, but you have to be a paid member to enter.

The technical forums are the best, the mod's don't put up with antics.

Welcome to every large and popular forum...ever.

If you're here for technical discussions and wish to share your knowledge of AR-15's with others, the technical forums on the site are probably your best bet. The rules are much stricter, they're moderated more aggressively, etc. The rules are much more relaxed in General Discussion, though (most) any topic is permissible to post here, even if it's better suited to one of the other sub-forums.

Ogive,

This place actually isn't that bad,  there is a forum I post on that you wear an FNG moniker under your name until they decide they like you.

The big thing on ARF is that we are used to getting waves of new members when stupid shit happens in the media, and when school lets out for the summer.

Join Date and post count are important for rooting out trolls.  And we will assume you are a stupid fucking troll until you prove other wise.  It isn't about post numbers, it is about other members getting to know you.

Think of this place like highschool,  you are the new kid, so you fucking suck and we hate you.  You will be picked on until some one decides they like you, and then you will get picked on less.

Same here.

The only time I dog pile noobs is if they are acting like asses, or are clearly trolling.

You don't need to be a paid member to participate in the tech forums - just the "Team Members Only" forum.

Spend some time perusing the tech forums. You'll notice a big difference in the tone of the posts.

Welcome OP.

Keep in mind that there were a ton of new guys joining up here in the last month bringing all kinds of shenanigans with them and causing hate and discontent with troll questions and general stupidity.

Stick with it.  There are a lot of great folks on here and a wealth of info in the tech forums.  The EE kicks ass and will once again once everyone stops losing their minds of all of the craziness.
