My church is very actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America.
Several of us have been called upon to help over the years, and have spent a lot of time with the boys,
teaching them about hunting, camping, fishing, etc.
Important stuff for kids that live in the city, and can't survive (so they think) without their cell phone or I-pod for a week.
But there's a problem.
You don't get the wife's blessings and support unless you do these activities while mentoring the young men.
I say that has to change!
Why should the wife unit be all supportive if you're taking young men fishing or shooting
but be oppositional if you want to go alone or with the buddies?
Makes no sense.
So I propose the organization of the "
Old Scouts of America".
Open to married, divorced or single heterosexual men of at least 25 years of age.
Meetings shall be held weekly at a local restaurant.
Activities shall be held each Saturday.
There will be merit badges and rank advancements.
But no gay uniforms with short pants and knee-high socks.
Go fishing at least twice a month for a year? Angling merit badge.
Build up a new AR? Engineering merit badge.
Spend an hour a day on ARFCOM for a year? Communications merit badge.
you get the idea.
All the things we want to do, with just enough legitimacy to get the wife's support.
What'cha think?
