dude!!
If your having overheating problems with that many fans you have ANOTHER problem. Is your processor overclocked? If it is step it down to the stated speed on the chip. If it is not what is your room temp. If it is hot in the room no amount of fans will help. Assuming you have a standard case config you will get better air circulation with the case on. This is a long shot but you may try unplugging a fan or 2. it is possible you are over taxing the power supply and causing it to heat up more than normal also. Fans pull a fair amount of power away from you system. IF you have a small power supply this could be a problem. If your system bios has adjustable voltage you might try reducing the voltage to the processor also. it may be set to high. Email me with your exact symtoms and i'll help all i can. Mike |

What are some of the temps. you are seeing?
Is it a Pentium or AMD? What kind of thermal paste are you using between the CPU and the heatsink? Is the whole mobo hot or just the chip? Sometimes too much thermal paste will insulate the chip (on too thick). I run my PIII 700 @ 933 MHZ and it's been cool since last summer, may have to aircondition my "cave" here yet! TF |

Mine is gettin pretty hot right now - its a lap top but i got it on my lap so its not getting any ventilation - hmmmmm - seems like they might have thot about that...

I think my problem is definitely because I havent turned the AC on yet. I'm a cheap bastard and like to delay that as long as possible. It's roughly 78 in here. One wouldnt think that would be a problem with all the fans I got in there though. I don't have a thermo in the puter at all. Not sure about the paste either as it was a Pentium II with the heatsink and fan already attached.
Maybe I'll buy one of those small refridgerators and set it up to house my computer. Hmm... [:\] |

Fans fans fans. Are they all pulling air in one direction? If so, then that isn't good. You should have an equal flow in and out. A few bringing air in and a few taking air out.
Lets see what you have. PS fan - Exhausting air Venting card w/2 fans - Exhaustin air Processor fan, just cooling your processor One in back.. doing what? in or out? One in front.. doing what? in our out. I suggest in. Seems like you don't have enough air going in. My .223 cents |

You have six fans on your computer and it still runs hot? Hmmmmmm. Maybe building computers is not your niche in life.

Make sure that you have some heat sink grease between your processor and the heat sink. You can buy it at Radio Shack for under $2.00. Don't apply too much and this stuff will drop you CPU temp 10-15 degrees. Good luck.

You ain't seen heat in PC's yet. The major mfr's new power spec is for 100 watts of 1.8 volt power for the processor alone. Fer krissakes they're gonna roast hotdogs before long.

78 should be fine temp wise. most PII coolers do not use heat sink paste. They usually have a thermal pad between them and the processor. adding zinc oxide

Get a air conditioner and set it to the artic setting unless you live in California then you'll need a generator too.

I'm no expert but it sounds like all your fans are exhausting out instead of bringing air in as well. I only have 2 case fans 1 brings air into the front. The other exhausts it out the back. No matter how warm the room gets, the air coming out the back is usually cool. Then again read my first three words. IMHO

You brought up a good point about slot 1 vs. socket 7. If your processor is a socket 7 then use the heat sink grease. AMD recomends a thermal compound aka. heat sink grease for its socket 7 processors. I don't know much about the slot 1s so I cant't offer any advise. |

The PII is a Slot 1 and as for air flow I have the one in the front pulling air in and the ones in the back pumping it out.
Oh, I havent responded in so long because I was out of town over the week and while I was gone a tornado decided to do a little remodeling of my apartment building. [:(] |

You can buy a lifetime supply in the baby diaper care area for 1.00 per 12oz tube. it's also used for diaper rash. [:)] |
