Ammo cache? I sold all my guns and ammo to avoid having to register them or turn them in in a confiscation.

JK, but guns are exspensive and I'm burn out on them anyway.

Talking yourself out of buying shit is about it AFAIK.

I have a set amount that I put into savings every month + everything that's left over in the budget every month.

Do you use a budget spreadsheet?  I've used this one for a few years now.  Takes discipline but it helps you see exactly where your money is going.

If you're not willing to cut anything out then you have to find ways to save on things you already buy...

Buy cheaper off brand rather than name brand for example...

You could always write up a budget for the government, sounds like your ideas match theirs... How do I save money without changing my spending habits...

I hear government employees are getting a raise too

Edited for spelling

Get a hobby that's free.  Running is free.

Get a girlfriend who doesn't care that you're poor.  Condoms are cheap enough to make sex practically free.

There are free things to do in every city.  Houston has museums and stuff that are free on certain days of the week or at certain times.

Library is free.   Go read a book.

I don't buy much as it is right now. I bought necessities when they were cheap. I don't eat much. I'm not poor, therefore finding a girlfriend who doesn't vare I'm poor aint happening.

Go buy a 4x4x4 rubiks cube and don't leave the house until you solve it. (without using the Internet)

That ought to keep you busy for a little while

All kidding aside, do you have any projects?

I always end up wrenching on my motorcycle when I'm bored and broke. I just quit and wait for another day if I can't afford a part...

You could always look for side jobs to earn money and kill time... Kill two birds with one stone

Ufortunately, I'm practically on call. Seasonal work, long, unpredictable hours. Most of the winter is spent doing nothing, but if there is work that day, you'd better be there. The job pays well enough, so its somewhat a case of golden handcuffs.

It's an investment in your future....$10 now, no spending at all for the next several weeks / months...and you probably won't eat for a few of the first days.

Gotta pay to play

Also, look into a second job.

I think when people think of a second job, they imagine working at Wendys for 10 bucks an hour and being miserable.  Maybe work at a gun shop.  Find something you like doing.

I work at for a company that does casino parties.  I make 25 an hour, usually deal craps, and have a ton of fun.  I don't work a ton of hours in a month (probably 6 hours a month, maybe 20 hours in December), so the total money I make isn't huge, but its fun, and I am free to spend that money on anything I want.  Anytime you can get out of the house, make a buck and have some fun, is a good day.  And jobs like this don't require previous experience.

Start a small in-home business or find something you can make a few bucks on.

It will keep you busy and saving money instead of spending it.

I worked my 'standard' job M-F 8-5, right? Then I took up serving court paper. Extremely low overhead, didn't interfere with my day job,  and, after some work, I was staying very busy and making some good money.

Those two years I saved a shit ton. A) Because I had money coming in that wasn't expected and B) I was too fucking beat to spend any of it. Heck, I felt like a millionaire. I had all this money (thousands, let's say) I could spend on my hobbies but I didn't have time and was too tired to mess with it.

Best idea I have had in a long time. Need to start it back up. Will wear your butt out but you can save some dough.

Get a "fun" second job that's like a hobby. Coach a high school team, bar tend, work at the pro-shop of a golf course on weekends.
