No problem. That's what NFA fees are for. Might have to raise them a "tiny" bit.

There are estimates of about 310 million total privately owned firearms... I think that may be low.

There's really only a few million ars

As well as the Canadian system worked, only with less compliance (if that is possible)

edited to add : NZ got rid of it's universal registration system after a mass shooting.

Actually the OP has a valid point. It takes what 6-8 months right now to get a stamp when you are lucky. And that's with maybe a couple thousand NFA items going through at any given time, tops. Now if all of a sudden 50 million semi autos over night become NFA items requiring a stamp wait times would take decades even if they were to quadruple the number of processors. This is for an item already in possession, a new law deeming a felony for not having a stamp...does not compute. Not going to happen. That part of a ban is DOA if nothing else because of logistics.

And even if they went full retard and did it anyway, I'm sure the SC would be willing to hear the case ASAP with people possibly waiting years to keep their property they already possess. They could pass a lot of bullshit, but making 50 million guns NFA ain't gonna happen.

This too is why we insist on a all or nothing vote.

Not just AR15s. Virtually all semi-automatic rifles and most handguns according to Swinestein's proposal. Easily a couple hundred million firearms affected (potentially).

Contract it out through a fee-based program.  Very, very little hiring and it can more than pay for itself.

I agree, there is no way there is that many AR's.  One need only look at the serial number on recently purchased lowers.  For example, I just bought a Mega forged lower that is just over 11,000 - and it is all numeric.  The one I purchase a year ago was in the high 7,000's.  I would venture to guess between 12-13,000 forged lowers have been produced by Mega alone.  I realize there are dozens of companies that have their roll mark on AR lowers, but if any of them (aside from the high volume manufacturers like Colt, DPMS, Bushmaster, and Rock River) have produced more than a hundred thousand since the end of the 1994 ban, I would be suprised.  The high volume companies may have produced around a million, Colt more than the others.  Although I have no way of telling how many have been produced, I would venture to guess it is somewhere around 25 million.  Just my guess based on the estimated number of guns in circulation.  AR's really haven't been a big seller until 2004.

I agree there are at least a couple hundred million guns that would need to be registered if Feinstein's law passed as proposed.  There is no way it could be done.  The ATF would be backlogged for decades trying to register that many.

Here's one estimate: 2.5-3.7 million AR-15s in civilian use in the United States.

Fucking endless speculation on this, that, or the other about bans, registrations, confiscations ad nauseum on this site. It is like many of you want something to happen. Thought creates. Gun owners are the most negatively polarized, defeatist bunch of poor me whiners I have witnessed.

Just fucking STOP.

Is there a moderation staff here that realizes how negative all of this SHIT is? At the least make ONE post where all of the defeated can go to speculate on their doom.

If you've ever actually submitted a Form 1 or 4 you would know that adding ANY additional weapons to the registry would be disasterous.

Let's not even get into the issues of 5320.20's if you live in a free state bordered by other free states.

The registry would need to be of similar size and scale as the IRS.  I'm sure the .gov would love it but it won't happen.

Lock this down.

Here's a fact.  There are somewhere around 200,000 registered machine guns and we know for a fact the registry is a cluster fuck now.  Add in MILLIONS of semi auto rifles and holy shit.  Huge massive cluster fuck.

Sure they can.  Waiting 6-9 months for a transfer now would seem like waiting a day. It would take them years to do a transfer.  Years.

3 day waiting period? Ha! Try a three year wait.

Look at just the estimates they ended up with in ny where there supposedly aren't many guns...

They were looking at something like 2 million.

nationwide that could easily translate to 50 million

Everything I own would be on that list and my collection is quite modest compared to some here

According to the NSSF there were approximately 30 million ARs in private hands in the US back in 2009.  An estimate of 40 million today doesn’t seem out of line.

Don’t forget that Marxist wants to register all guns anyway, SO … yeah, fuck her.
