Okay first post here, I just bought my first AR15 its a Bushmaster .223 16 inch barrel. Any ways it seems a little dry inside and was wondering what oil and cleaners you guys recommend?
Also I was told that AR likes to run wet is this true?

Run it wet and get in a dusty or sandy environment.......

I use high temp wheel bearing grease. Haters gon' hate.

Good quality gun oil. Personally I like Lucas. Yes. Run it wet. Be careful with it, become familiar with it, you're no expert yet.

Breakfree is fine, but wet isn't necessary just a light coat and you'll be fine.

I swear by CLP....just a little goes a long way. Certainly not 'wet'.....at least until the boat sinks.

I use full synthetic 10W-30 motor oil. I leave the entire bolt carrier wet. It works for me.

Poor guy walked in to GD and got blindsided. Lol

CLP, Rem oil, M-pro 7, all good options for lubrication. I use rem oil and/or clp to clean and lubricate. Depends on what's nearest. I'd stay in the Tech forums if you want actual answers.

Slip 2000 make the best products on the market for gun maintenance. They even passed the Aberdeen tests. I ran 3,000 round through my AR in 3 days without a single malfunction. My AR was lubbed heavy with Slip 2000 and while it was extremely dirty after 3,000 round it was still very wet with lube. The stuff never drys or burns off. I posted pictures a long time ago in the maintenance forum and it sold tons of people on Slip 2000.

Yep, they like to be run wet. Any type of gun oil should be okay. DO NOT use anything like WD40.

Welcome to the site. Ignore the idiots.

Stuff like CLP and specific gun lubes are great - just don't put a LOT of oil on it. A light coat on the moving metal surfaces that contact each other should be fine.

But to be honest, most oil will work fine. Motor oil, for example, is a great AR lubricant.

a can of breakfree clp is pretty easy to come by.

The maintenance and cleaning section might turn you on to atf and synthetic motor oil,

Get some coated Dewey Rods, brass jags, brass core bronze brushes and learn how to use them before cleaning the gun. Also get some Wipe Out foaming bor cleaning for copper removal. Stuff is awesome and 100% safe for guns.
