Interesting. Not only was it building decoys, but it sounds like it was manipulating one like a puppet on strings. Very cool. "Then we got closer and realized it wasn’t a spider at all,” he said. "We looked behind the decoy and lo and behold, we saw this little spider guy shaking [his web] back and forth trying to act all tough. We realized then that this is really something special.” |

Shelob developed a holoduke?

What's scary is that it has the correct number of legs on the decoy.

Why is this place still there? I'm sure it would make lovely farm land.

That is really cool.
Maybe someday we will be able to have a cup of coffee and talk politics with intelligent spiders. |
|
That's pretty impressive. Constructing it and moving it to act as a decoy isn't something I'd have thought a spider would be "smart" enough to do.

Spiders are alot smarter than some give credit for.
There was another spider that actually plucked on spiders webs to get the spider to run out and then it would attack. Very smart. |

I am somewhat frightened by the fact that spiders can be this smart. What's next?

How can spiders me this smart and politicians be so dumb Politicians don't have any predators to worry about anymore. No danger of getting booted, means no reason to change. |

What's scary is that it has the correct number of legs on the decoy. This....this is very scary. pretty wild...I remember reading a Nat Geo article about elephants' self-realization ability by testing them in front of mirrors with an X marked on their face...some would touch the mark on the mirror, the smart ones would touch the mark on their forehead. Not a lot of creatures can do that. |
|
Quoted: How can spiders me this smart and politicians be so dumb Because humans have created an environment where the weak and dumb can thrive. Spiders on the other hand live and die by Darwinism. |

They talk about it not being a form of self-realization, but it's interesting that the legs are correct. Makes me wonder. |
