I shot some South African 7.62mm NATO and man, I was nearly overcome at one point! After about 10 shots rapid fire, you get this awful ammonia-smelling haze. Had a headache the rest of the afternoon, and this was an outdoor range. Nasty!

Yeah, the first time I took my Bushy out to the farm, I noticed that smell as well. Definitely ammonia. I thought it was the oils burning off from the mfg processes...then I figured out it was the ammo. I never had that problem w/ my SKS. I have tried the "bump fire" technique and went through all three of my 30 rd mags for it and never noticed that smell.

Try some Vihta Vouri powder. N135 smells like black pepper to me. Kinda nice.
