Guys, I'm itching for a .308 and I've decided on a Savage 10FP. Does anyone know who has the best price? Shotgun News has one dealer in Nebraska (I think it is) that lists it for $360 + $10 shipping, plus my dealer's transfer fee. Locally, I've got a price of $415-425, which is comparable, but I'm just looking for the best price I can get.

Does anyone know if I can just buy the barreled action? I will likely get a different stock for it anyways.

Finally, does anyone have experience with Young Guns in Apex, NC? They have a nice web site and they are fairly nearby, but I haven't actually checked out the store yet.

trickshot....359 & tax...shop down the street....keep looking. 360 is right in most places for the going rate. any wally marts near you?.....[heavy]

Sure, lots of Wal Marts, but I've never seen a 10FP for sale in one. Anyone else with the lowdown?

Try calling Savage directly. That's what I did and got my 10FP at a very good price. They should tell you where their distributors are. Ask them to tell you who are the largest movers of this weapon then go from there. By the way, I've had mine for over 4 years now and Remington hasn't been able to touch it!

Can somebody tell me the difference between the 110FP and the 10FP?

BTW, I was looking through the catalog at the local Wally World last week. They had the 10FP, but no 110FP.

Thanks, I'll definitely give Savage a call. I never thought of that.

BTW--the 110FP has a longer action than the 10FP which is a "short action" but I've read that it is more like a medium compared to other short actions. I don't really know what the difference is though. Faster cycle time?

10FP is short action such as .223,.308, etc. 110FP is long action for 30-06 and such. Go to [url]www.savagearms.com[/url] and look under centerfire products. I got to fire my 110FP today in 30-06 for the first time. I have the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock on and it was very accurate at 600 yds.

Ask Wal-Mart to order it for you.Thats what I did several years ago when I got mine. They still beat the price of my local gun stores, give them a call and see what they can do price wise for you.

Savage rifle barrels are tack driving accurate right out of the box, as admitted by even many a Remington fan. They're not as smoothe as a Remington, but triggers and stocks can always be upgraded.

The long action is for longer cartridges, 300 winmag, 30-06, .270, 7mm magnum, etc. The short action is for shorter cartridges, .308, .223, 22-250, etc.

I happen to be in the market for a 10FP too. Best price I've got is $345 from Jerry's. My friendly neighborhood gun dealer's gonna order one for me. BTW, dealer cost is $333 on these, so if you can get out the door for less than $400 total you're doing good.

BTW, I'm looking for a one-piece scope base and 1" rings too.

I just got a 10FP in .223. The only one-piece *Weaver* (cross-slot) base I found was from B-Square, and it looks much like the one-piece rails from Weaver. These are OK, but not great. I ended up with the two-piece Leupold Weaver-style bases and QRW rings. You can get the dovetail-type (i.e., hunter's style) Leupold bases in one-piece, but I never liked them.

Redfield has a 2 piece [b]matte[/b] standard mount that will fit a 10FP. It is listed for the 110 series LA/SA (the Hunter Series, not the FP), but it will fit the 10FP receiver, I verified this with Savage.
I also ordered Burris Signature rings in matte finish. They are the only rings I will buy. Look Ma, no marks on my scopes!

MY FIRST POST!

A little OT but does anyone know where I can find a 10FP (or comparable) replacment berrel for my standard 110. I have cheaked savage arms, Brownell's, and savageparts.com with no luck.

trickshot, Jerry's Sports in PA. Sorry, I don't have any contact info. They're a distributor and only deal with FFLs. Your dealer should be able to get in touch with them.
