I think I might have a unique solution to the Slavery Reparations debate, one
that would make everybody happy: Combine Affirmative Action with Gun Control.
As you know, any sensible person will tell you that gun control reduces
violence and therefore is inherently beneficial to the population that lives
under it.  It is also a given that gun control will save millions of dollars
in medical expenses and lost wages for those communities who adopt it- the
Physicians for Social Responsibility has estimated that gun violence costs
society hundreds of millions of $ per year.  Finally, it is common knowledge
that African Americans lag far behind other groups in reaping the benefits of
our society, due to discrimination and other historical injustices.  
Therefore, they should be benefitted ahead of other, more advantaged groups,
by pushing gun control programs designed to disarm all black communities
immediately.  Unfair, you say?  Why pass over qualified whites who also
deserve the benefits of gun control as well?  Because we are making up for
200 years of slavery, discrimination and oppression.  Only a racist would
deny African Americans the benefits of immediate and total gun control when
they've suffered through years of discrimination and reduced benefits in
society.   After years of drawing the short straw, why not put them first
this time?  While all Americans will eventually benefit from gun control,
African American communities, through no fault of their own, suffer from much
higher violent crime rates than other groups, and also tend to have less
health insurance to cover their gunshot wounds.  Affirmative Action Gun
Control will finally give blacks a chance to compete with other, more
fortunate ethnic groups and help to compensate for inadequate investment in
their schools, churches and communities.  Think of the benefits they will
accrue, tens or hundreds of millions of $ per year in reduced medical and
death benefits, all of which can then be applied toward Slavery Reparation
claims.  Using the cost savings numbers of the Physicians for Social
Responsibility, the total Reparation claims can be settled in less than ten
years at no cost to the average tax payer!   Pushing for the immediate
application of Affirmative Action Gun Control in black communities is the
compassionate thing to do, and what's more, it's the RIGHT thing to do.  ; )

Hee hee...darn good idea. BUT in reality, outright gun "control" has already been forced on most large groups of Afro-Americans. Look at any large inner-city: D.C., New York, LA, Chicago ect. Guns are banned PERIOD. It hasn't helped them a bit. Laws are only there for those who follow them, if you don't give a damn about "capping off" your own people, what makes policy-makers think that they will follow intricate firearms laws?
