...to the gun show today. I got up at 8AM fully intending to go. I was supposed to meet a few guys I know around 9AM. I'm sure they'll do fine without me. I guess I could have gone for the entertainment value, but I haven't seen a good deal at a gun show in a very long time. All the fun stuff is banned. Lots of ammo and accessories but nothing I can't find cheaper online.

I was going to go just so I could renew my NRA membership and get in free. Nah.. it ain't worth the trip. My NRA membership expired a few years ago and I just haven't had the incentive to renew it. Haven't seen much return for my money, especially here in California. Been feeling a bit jaded for some time now. It's rather ironic, because I used to be gung ho about gun rights. Oh well, c'est la vie. I need to get out and throw some lead downrange.

We used to have the Lake County Gun Show every third Sunday at the fairgrounds. The biggest in Illinois.

Then the fairgrounds were annexed by Grayslake (former farm town gone yuppie/NIMBY). The anti c**t mayor jumps on every tragedy in the news and spews lies about the show. They hold hearings to discuss banning the show (depite the presence of a legal contract between the promoter and farm bureau). They had to turn away the 100+ non-residents that showed up to support the show.

Anyway, the mayor sicked her puppet police chief and his loyal goons on 'em. They set up a sting where plainclothes officers would go up to ammo dealers and identify themselves as being Indiana residents, able to purchase under contiguous state regulation. If the dealer agreed, the officer claimed to have 'left my ID/DL back in my truck - do I have to walk all the way out there and get it?"

Most of the dealers said "yeah, you've gotta show it to me".

Two didn't. They were charged with unlawful sales of ammo (as they probably should have been). But the c**t used that as PC to shut the show down, claiming "huge" number of illegal transactions. I think she threw something in the news article about "unregistered sales without background checks" taking place (between individuals - there's that pesky old "loophole" again). She was able, after five years of trying, to shut down one of the biggest moneymakers for the Village.

Now, if I want to go to a show, I've got to drive out to McHenry County or down to Dupage - 1 and 1 1/2 hours respectively.

I could wish a home invasion resulting in a last thought of "gee...wish I had a gun" on the bi*ch, but I'm not going to waste my time. Maybe next life she'll come around as an ethnic minority that's rounded up and genocided (is that a word?) due to being unarmed.

When's the Phoenix gun show? I have a buddy who lives in Chandler. He used to live here and I just saw him last weekend. He comes back every year for our annual pig roast.

I'm going to Yuma in a couple of weeks for the dove opener. We always stop in Sprague's to get our non-resident 3-day permits and ogle the toys. The folks we run into down there are real nice. California dove hunters are good for business.

Tango7, tell me about it. CA Attorney General Lockyer did a gun show sting in Pomona a few years ago. It was a big farce from the get-go. The weapons they held up for the cameras belonged to DOJ agents, some of them anyway. The Great Western show was kicked out of Pomona. They moved to Las Vegas, but apparently they were making much more money when they ran in Pomona, so they tried to move back. There was a lawsuit pending against the LA County Board of Supervisors, but I think the court threw it out. That sucks.

Oh yeah, BTW, when I was eight years old was the first year the Ford Mustang came out. There was no Toy'R'Us, but there was Ben Franklin Five & Dime, and Woolworths. But I understand your point. [:)]

Hell, I went to the gunshow today.  Scored a bayonet for my 1903A3, and 1K rounds of 9mm.  There were a few nice M1 carbines (all IBM I think) that looked interesting, but I didn't have the fundage for any of them.  Bah.. maybe next month.
