My friend's response to this is pretty funny since he's in the Navy: "I don't care about the 2nd Ammendment. Im not a gun enthusiast or someone who wants them banned. I'm not getting a gun anytime soon."

Don't worry, he hasn't responded to anything about that whole oath he took either. People need to be punched in the face before they start to care about shit that they don't think affects them. Sad world.

I am mystified at the morons who keep muttering that the 2nd amendment was written with muskets in mind, as if the founding fathers, who had just fought a war and were well educated in history, were unaware that instruments of war and arms evolve. I'm pretty sure these intelligent chaps did in fact have that in mind when they wrote the 2nd amendment.

They're falsely trying to tie an idea to the instruments of the time. One needs to separate them, and the woman in the OP first response to the moron was exactly right. It has nothing to do with specific types of weapons, only that one has the right to keep and bear them as a recourse against oppressive government.

Hell, one could even say that the average American back then had SUPERIOR weapons than the British. (rifled muskets vs smoothbores)

I have noticed your manners in that regard and appreciate it.

Coming over here in order to be a commentator on OUR government in such a biased fashion (to either side really)? That just pisses me off to no end.

I recall a headline in a British paper when GW was re-elected that said "How can so many people be so dumb?". Now at the time I was dumb, I had voted for Kerry, but the letter I wrote them must have been 3 pages long. On the flip side, I'm sure that was another factor in developing the political philosophy I hold today. SO that backfired on them!
