Once someone commits to purchasing an item and you commit to selling them the item, How
long should you wait before you sell that item to someone else , because the initial person who told you they wanted the item is not communicating?

I'd wait a while.  Give them a week or two.  They might have unforseen difficulties like computer problems or family issues that command their immediate attention.

If he/she hasn't sent you any money or communicated in 2 weeks, put it back up for sale.
