I have a bottle of Chateauneuf-De-Pape from 1996 that spent a few years in a closet that may have reached 90* or so occasionally in the summers.  I think it was exposed to those temperature fluctuations for about 6 years.

My concern is that the cork cover (some foil or whatever it is) had swelled.  This may not be a big deal, but here is a pic:

Pic of bottle label:

Should this be OK to drink?

I think it might not be at it's peak...but it is at a decently high alcohol percent I don't think it is "bad".  Also I am drinking red wine right now, and I am classy as fuck.

It was definitely not stored optimally.

However, I would wager that it would still be safe to drink and may be "ok".

I would think it would have gone bad by now.

Might not taste that great. Better drink it now before it gets worse.
