I was offered the chance to purchase the guns owned by an acquaintance who recently committed suicide.  The person's family is not into firearms and wants to be rid of them.  I'm kinda torn by the idea.  The person owned three handguns, one a Glock, which I wouldn't want anyway (not a Glock fan).  The person was into high quality stuff, though, it will be interesting to see what the other guns turn out to be––one is a .357 revolver, the other is unknown at this time.  I don't think I'd want the one used in the suicide, though.  Bad juju?  What would you do?

I'm not really a revolver guy, but I wouldn't be opposed if the price were right.

It wouldn't bother me.  You can probably get a good deal on them all since the family wants to get rid of them.

I tried to. Someone I know offed himself with a colt python, and I tried to get that gun. The cops wouldn't let me have it.

+1

Although if the person was a family member or a friend then I would probably pass regardless because I would be reminded of it too much every time I was to see it.

Well, let's say it's family of family.  I'd rather not go into a lot of detail.

For years, I sought out evidence guns as an area of interest to me. Morbid? Possibly, but, it lent a story to every piece. Still have an old S&W auto that was used by a prospective 1%er to get bones by executing an officer. OTOH, if it was from a case I had personal connection to, I'd pass on it to avoid being reminded of the event.

I'd buy it if it was cheap. Its not like the guns will make you commit suicide.

I had a '70 road runner, that the previous owner killed himself in.
I found his old drivers license, his middle name is my first name.
I called the car Christine.

I'd buy the gun if the price was right.

I have one revolver that was used in a suicide, and another that most likely was used in a murder. They are just pieces of steel.

I'd take it.

I know a guy that "accidentally" shot his friend with the friends own gun. Nobody is really sure what happened, the guy lived and he isn't talking. When the guy that got the gun back he sold it then my friend bought it from him the other day and it's still got the evidence tape on the box.

My buddy has a beautiful over and under that his (dead) father gave him.  His mother-in-law knew how to get ahold of it and shot herself in the head with it.  I don't really like even being in the same duck blind with it.  I knew his MIL well.  Too many memories which puts a damper on any good times we have while hunting ducks.

Spellcheck, or really a case of sidewase?

Sidewase is a horrible way to go.

I'll go against the grain.

If someone extremely close to me, say my lover, were to choose to end it all. I'd want the gun.

It's morbid to some, to me it would be the last connection I have to them.

Anyone else I wouldn't care either way. I'd buy it, shoot it, take care of it, and make my own memories with it.

When my friend was murdered by his wife, I bought a couple guns from his estate. One was a Smith Model 19 that he had purchased from a retired LEO who had used it in a righteous shooting. My buddy was fascinated by that gun. I would have taken the Glock 19 she murdered him with if his Dad had offered it to me, but I wasnt going to ask.
The history is only as important as you allow it to be.

My neighbor, 2 doors down, sat in his backyard last year with a shotgun stuck to the side of his head for a few hours. The cops talked him out of pulling the trigger. The next day I asked his wife if they wanted to sell any of their guns, she hasn't talked to me since.

She has since moved out, their kid doesn't talk to him anymore, he drinks like a fish and everyone now knows he was never in the Army or Special Forces like he always told stories about.

If the price was right, damn straight I would buy the guns.

I would only want the ones that were not used.

I think there are vibes associated with the gun that was used. I think to take advantage of it - especially because "the price was right" - kinda justifies and bad karma that results.

For an extra 50 or 100 bucks, i would just want until another popped up....

We have a former range rental gun (.44 Mag revolver) that has two suicides on it.  After the second one the range decided to get rid of it.  It also works just fine on deer.

ETA: Hadn't read the OP. Sorry if I offend but that's kind of how I feel about it in a crass sort of way. FWIW, my grandfather committed suicide with a Nylon 66. If I hadn't gone away for service I would have gone to the police station and picked it up. No one in the family would have. I'm sure it's been melted down by now.
