No, it's the sauce

My understanding is that it is not the Turkey, its the turkey accompanied by Mashed Potatoes, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Green Bean Casserole, Rolls / Bread, and several pieces of Pumpkin Pie.

Eating several pounds worth of food will make most things lethargic.

The reaction is similar to what happens to a python after eating a pig.

The amount of tryptophan ( the widely blamed culprit) in the std size servings of Turkey is not enough to cause the drowsy reaction.

Postprandial somnolence is the real culprit

Tryptophan

ETA: Beat while linking... And agreed on the amount to tryptophan in turkey not necessarily the likely culprit. Cheddar cheese has more tryptophan, however, you don't normally eat a pound of cheese at one sitting.

They have a poisonous amino acid in them called Tryptophan.  Guess if a turkey is getting attacked in the wild, this is its defense mechanism. Kinda like how Monarch butterfly caterpillars are nasty because they eat milkweed.  Dont think it went according to plan though!

According to the Mythbusters, it's the AMOUNT of food not the actual food.  YMMV.

Digesting food takes metabolic energy, and a lot of it.    The body diverts that energy to the stomach to get the job done,

and so you want to take a nap while your digestive system gets busy.

It's not the turkey, it's the fact that your day was much busier than usual. Hanging out all day at a gun range isn't exhausting by any means...yet I always am afterwards.

Nope.

I just just slept it off like the Honey Badger did the snake bite.  And then I went back to eating.
