I found this in a pile of free stuff.  I have no idea what it is, but it looks well constructed and undamaged.  It looks like it attaches to a bench on one end and then the arm folds out to hold stuff on the tray, but I'm really curious to know what it was designed for.

It is a swing arm desk mount for a computer monitor.

That's wierd, the pictures come up in your post after I follow the link in another window.

Looks like a wall mount for a TV. They usually have brackets underneath it to hold a VCR.

If you look at the clamp on the end of the arm, you will see that it is made for a desk. If you had something to clamp it to on the wall you could use it to hold a small TV but it won't have a VCR bracket. [:)]

I missed that clamp. yeah, it looks like one of those sheet holders. You know the ones where your put your paper on so you can slide the holder next to the monitor so you can type what's on the paper.

Yep, it's a monitor holder - don't go bigger than a 17" standard, or a 19" lightweight if you can find one...  I handled a lot of these when I ran the maintenance department at Adobe.

Looking at the clamp as the "shoulder," the knob at the "wrist" is a tension adjustment - used for either compensating for the weight of the monitor or making the "elbow" and "wrist" more rigid when set.  Most of them will lock - to a point - when the knob is turned all the way in.

You could probably use it on a workbench as a laptop stand or a "floating" tool holder for projects - I'd not mind having one for that myself.  I'll probably wind up making them when I really have a need, tho - I tend to purpose build a lot of things...
