BASE OF THE 46TH REGIMENT, Syria (AP) — After a
nearly two-month siege, Syrian rebels overwhelmed a large military base
in the north of the country and made off with tanks, armored vehicles
and truckloads of munitions that rebel leaders say will give them a
boost in the fight against President Bashar Assad's army.

The rebel capture of the base of the Syrian army's
46th Regiment is a sharp blow to the government's efforts to roll back
rebels gains and shows a rising level of organization among opposition
forces.

More important than the base's fall, however, are the weapons the
rebels found inside. At a rebel base where the much of the haul was
taken after the weekend victory, rebel fighters unloaded half a dozen
large trucks piled high with green boxes full of mortars, artillery
shells, rockets and rifles taken from the base. Parked nearby were five
tanks, two armored vehicles, two rocket launchers and two heavy-caliber
artillery cannons.

Around 20 Syrian soldiers captured in the battle
were put to work carrying munitions boxes, barefoot and stripped to the
waist. Rebels refused to let reporters talk to them or see where they
were being held.

"There has never been a battle before with this
much booty," said Gen. Ahmad al-Faj of the rebels Joint Command, a
grouping of rebel brigades that was involved in the siege. Speaking on
Monday at the rebel base, set up in a former customs office at Syria's
Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey, he said the haul would be
distributed among the brigades.

I bet those Syrian Army POWs are considered part of the booty. Or, their booty is considered booty.

They're switching out a brutal autocracy for what will likely be a brutal theocracy.

Increased instability. Attacks from Syria via Iran-backed proxies.

Nothing.

All the pieces are coming together. And our illustrious CinC has been doling-out his blessings (and our money) for the complete take-over of the entire region by militant islamic regimes. Under previous US Administrations, we armed totalitarian individuals that we could mostly keep under our thumbs with money and promises of rewards for "playing nice" with the West. Under the new "democracy" breaking-out everywhere in the ME, we won't control JACK and those who've seized power are loyal only to their wackjob mullahs and warped, stone-age world views. We've always played with fire via our international policy –– with an egomaniacal dictator scattered here and there. In Obama's case... we're handing countless psychos and martyrs trainloads of gasoline and matches –– knowing DAMN well that they'd love to (and INTEND to) set the entire earth on fire. I love the concern of the left (and some here) about the danger that "zionists" and bible-thumpers pose to world peace. But arming masses of militant, suicidal islamics and helping/supporting their power grab isn't even worthy of acknowledgement. Of course... many of these beyond confused people are the same ones who celebrate aborting (KILLING) a human baby as a basic human right, while protesting the capital punishment of an evil, cold-blooded murderer in a candle-lit vigil. What an upside-down world we are living in.

The "good guys" never get squat in the ME. It's always either the totalitarians or the militants.

Believe it or not, some of those rebels are simply trying to make sure their families aren't gunned down by government backed shitbirds.

Those. Are. The. Good. Guys.

Look it up.

Believe it or not, I'm old enough to have heard the same song sung many times before.

"Those people in the streets in Iran are just tired of the Shah."

"Those rebels in El Salvador are just tired of being exploited by the wealthy landowners."

"The Palestinians are just tired of living under Israeli occupation."

Look it up.

Let's do the zero-based interests analysis here.

What is the U.S. national security interest in Syria?

Regional based, US backed, stability...?

An erosion of political and military influence of an Iraninan backed ally?

Upperhand on a old enemy ( Russian Naval base, the sole base in the Mediterranean sea)

Thats what I can come up with in about a minute..

The natives are getting restless but: the Jordanian armed forces are atypically decent for the Middle East and there is no way the Saudis will allow Abdullah to fall. It might take bloodletting on a scale of Black September but there will be an asskicking.

If it does happen, the Sauds are next and we are all gonna be in for an unholy shit storm.

We've already got The Panderer in Chief watching the candy store and doling out weapons and protection to terrorists.

Iran already has significant nuke-stuffs and a leadership to torch off a world conflagration.

How much worse can it get if it all goes to hell in the next year instead of the next 3 months?
