Update so went to homedepot and bought a piece of pvc and fabricated my coupler shim.
Here's what it looks like.

Note if you want the mag to feed reliably you'll need to deburr the dremel job when you remove the crimp. Also you should put a .45 degree tilt to the edge of the magazine follower so it won't catch the sharp edges for reliable feeding.
Tested about 100 rds through it with the mag extension and works flawlessly. IM if you want specifics.

It's the damn forehand. I loath the way it curves down towards the feed tube, and the pistol grip is sorta sucky. I would like a regular stock that looks like and HK stock for it. Didn't stop me from buying one though.

Only negative I see in modifying is it will probably void the 5 yr. warranty but oh well. Anyone else done a polishing job on all the moving parts? I was surprised how rough some of them were especially the hammer.

I have had a Tristar Cobra Tactical for 3 years. Shoots great with 00 buck, slug, bird. I've had 2-3 failure to feed, but I think I short racked it. Great gun. Been off to the side since I bought my Mossy 930 SPX.

Ok I also picked up one of these as well. modding for the extension was a snap, just 10 quick and easy steps.

Easy to install
1. order a ATI 3 rd mag extension for a Remington 870 and a 45in XP shotgun mag spring from Wolff. ( my extension was $30 from Centerfire systems)
2. Take gun apart
3. Press down the stopper on the end of the mag spring and dremel lip off of mag tube.
3. remove old spring. (keep it stored somewhere with the original cap, it will still work)
4. using a dremel cutting wheel and a high speed tool, remove about 1/4 inch off the end of the mag tube. (appx 2.5 to 3 turns of the threads)
5. smooth even and debur the top of the mag tube with side of cutting wheel
6. using a grinding tip, dremel about a 45 degree angle on your cut from the inside of the hag tube (lets mag follower pass more easily)
6. dremel a 45 degree lip on the mag follower ( reduces chance of getting follower binding)
7. note where the mag extension stops against the hand guard, there is a little peg there to prevent it from becoming unscrewed. Note whee that lines up on the mag extension and grind some small slots into the base of the extension to fit.
8. clean the piss out of everything, clean mag tube 4x (metal shavings) and oil, then reassemble.
9. insert my mag spring and screw down extension tube.(mine is appx 32 inches, the one that comes with the ATI extension isn't long enough)
10. test fit, capacity and function. (mine now holds 8 +1 and cycles just fine.)

All done. Enjoy. Total time, 25 min.

Some pics after my polishing job I did. The mag tube came off easy with a rubber strap wrench. I wish I had taken before picks too so you could see the difference. I used 1500 finishing paper and a buffing wheel. Hopefully now it will cycle inexpensive 2 3/4 target shot reliable. Will post how it does soon.

Finally got out with mine today. Gave it a good cleaning and a light oiling. Shot Federal 2 3/4 #8 shot bulk pack low brass. First 6 shots, no go. Short cycled. Next 6 shots, stove piped almost all. Took it down and oiled it again. It then ran thru appx 75 rounds with not a single hickup. It shoot very well and to point of aim. The recoil was very mild. Between the gas system and the stock, I liked it. It was more comfortable than my Beretta TX4.
Next is to do the mag tube alteration.
I'm really glad I bought this shot gun.

I picked up 1 as well. I would like to know if there's a way to shorten the stock or put in an aftermarket 1 as its longer than I'd like.

Took mine apart today.

Sanded all the moving parts with 800grit ,then 1000 grit, then 1500 grit and finally 2000 grit. sandpaper. It all feels like glass now, Took the trigger out, lightly sanded and polished the hammer and sear. The trigger is now nice and crisp, the slight gritty feeling is long gone. For a $300 shotgun, I'm happy with it after adding the choke, mag extension and polishing it up.

i'm keeping my eye on this as well. Just took a look at the manual online.

I wonder if a Benelli collapsible stock would work.

I pulled the stock off to see if its the same pattern as a Remington, it is NOT

pity, even the Chinese shotguns use remington pattern stocks. can someone MOVE this thread to the Armory/General or Shotgun discussions. I would hate to see this thread disappear in this GD sea...

use a phillips screwdriver to unscrew the 2 screws from the rear (insert thru 2 holes); this detaches the recoil pad & opens the stock. then use socket wrench into stock to unscrew nut from reciever, then pull stock off.

I bought one on Black Friday at Academy.

Think it was $269.

One trip to the range has been positive so far.

Mixed 25 rounds of #8 and 00 buck 2 3/4's.

Mostly tested for functionality.

Cursory research suggests adding capacity to a 6 round semi-auto import may not be kosher.

For the money, I can't find anything wrong with it, so far.

All other Tristar semi-auto reviews (mostly the hunting models) have been mostly positive, going back several years.

ETA: It was still on sale for $269 last week.

I paid $250 for a LNIB remington 1100. I had to spend $3 for an interceptor latch retainer to fix it (oem part was out of spec for the factory) i got the park from brownells.

where do you guys buy parts for these shotguns at?

Will be working on that in a few days, just got back a replacement mag tube from a buddy. Gave him the original, he then fabricated one out of stainless in a few hours to make a replacement. It's better than the original, It added some weight to the gun and that helped reduce the recoil with the heavier loads. Also added a US made follower/spring. Going to try winchester, mossberg and remington stocks on it in the next few days. Whichever fits (or can be made to fit). From what I have seen, the TriStar Cobra Tac shotgun comes with a folding stock and that stock also fits mossberg from what I have read. So first I'll try my ATI mossberg 500 stock and report my findings.

Tristar makes several hunting models without a pistol grip, that are pretty similar,

If you have an Academy Sporting goods check their stock.

Thanks to paxrom and medic535 for the info on fitting an extension to the Tri-Star Raptor.

I got one from Academy for a Christmas present for the wife.
I ordered the cheaper ATI Nylon/steel +3 extension and clamp, and a GGG sling adapter.

I ran a wire down the follower and tied it off to hold the spring while I cut off 0.2 inch from the factory tube.
drilled a 0.050" dimple in the sling adapter for the forearm locking pin. Was pretty simple following the info posted here.

The ATI spring seems to work fine.

thanks for the observation.
The Nylon sits right out there in the blast zone.
I hope to get out this weekend and run some 8/9 shot strings and hopefully not melt off the end of the mag :)
The gun rocks 5 shots pretty well.
Actually would be good to see what happens. If bad, then everyone needs to get the metal one if they do this mod.

Haven't shot it with the new mag and spring but it seems to want to cycle the last round.
The extra long spring is pretty cheap so I'll probably just go ahead and order it anyway.
Must keep the wife happy (she just doesn't need to know how much her happiness costs).

Buds sells a Linberta shotgun that appears to be the same thing as the Tristar but with a better tube and a nice looking flash hider
