Anything unusual? No turkey? Something mundane that you eat all the time anyway?

We normally skip the turkey and do ham instead. My dad for years and years always got a 24# turkey on Wed. afternoon at work and no way to thaw it out in time so we normally cut it in half and cooked our half for christmas and gave the other half to my grandmother to cook whenever.

Pork loin on the grill this year.  We've done steaks in the past.  Turkey for three is pretty stupid.

We did a "Christmas Story" dinner one year with Chinese food.

Everyone had fun singing  "Traw wah wah wah waa, waa wah wah wah."

We always did ham on Easter, turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas. We're down to four of us now.
We're going to a buffet on Thanksgiving, will probably do the turkey for Christmas.
It's a lot for just 4 people too.

That tasteless, steroid OD'd, cardboard crap that we so affectionately call turkey...

I'd rather eat the box that it came in. I hate turkey.

Mom found a local Chinese restaurant in her neighborhood (Queens, NY) last year that had a Thanksgiving special... in house only, whole lobster, cooked any way you wish for $9.99.  We ordered 3, along with some Peking duck and dungeness crab.  Hope they run that special again this year... much rather have lobster than turkey or ham.

Turkey (one smoked, two fried,) ham, crown roast of lamb, mashed potatos, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, cornbread, several varieties of dressing, pecan pie, sauteed mushrooms, greenbean casserole, collards, baked squash, loads and loads of wine, beer, garlic bread, salad, and I'm sure I've missed something.

(This is us––-my parents live in SC and are vegetarians, though they will be hosting my big sis and her husband and kids who eat meat and are heading there from MS, along with my vegetarian and communist little sister and her husband and kids, who also live in SC.  I have no inlaws, really, barring a few cousins of the wife's, one of whom lives in Australia, one in San Francisco, and one in D.C.)

I'm making turkey for three.

I did get a small one (14lbs), and I've already made plans for what to do with the remainder.

My family is vegetarian so they serve Tofurkey.

No milk or eggs used to make the rolls.

Not sure what the butter is but it's isn't butter.

I could if I wanted to but TBH, I think Tofurkey tastes great.  I love it.

The rolls made without milk and eggs, however, are bleh.  They are flat or something, don't care for them at all.

I don't care for it all that much either. It's better since we started frying them but really, a good ham has a lot going for it. We do both.

I do the cooking, because I do it right.  Besides, we have two babies in the house, so everyone travels to us now.

This year is:
Mesquite smoked turkey, pre-brined in a cranberry, herb, and pale ale solution
Chipotle mashed sweet potatoes
Twice-baked Russets, salt-rolled with slab bacon and sharp 2-year cheddar
Sauteed carrots finished in walnut butter
Blanched asparagus with shaved white cheddar
Sourdough stuffing with herbs and aromatics

Paired with more beer than you can handle.

SIL has some awesome family recipes that she only makes at Thanksgiving and Christmas so everyone always looks forward to them.  They will do the traditional turkey as well.

I'm going to smoke a brisket like I did last year.  It was a hit and the first thing that was completely gone.

It depends who's house we're at. Sometimes, we'll have something unusual like a pea casserole. Other times, we'll have animated argument, with screaming, crying and hurt feeling for dessert.

Like I said, it depends who's hosting, and who's invited.
