This will be my new gun, I only own AR's at the moment for rifle, but wanted something good out to 8-900 yards. The $1,000 includes my budget for a scope as well. Any ideas?

I was able to put together a nice long range rig for $1000 last year. I went with a Remington 700 SPS Tactical with a SWFA SS 10x scope and Seekins Precision base and rings.

Rifle plus scope for $1000? I'd go for a SWFA Super Sniper scope and a Rem 700 or Savage for that price range.

ETA: Beaten to it.

Save more money. That's a good starting payment on a have way decent scope.

Best deal you are going to get is a Remington 700P or Savage Model 10 with a Leupold Mark 4 scope and a Harris bipod. Look for a not so used precision set up. Long range shooting is expensive and if you want to to consistently hit a small target out at 800 to 900 yards, you had better have decent set up, know your dope and know how to read the wind.

For 1K  you can get a "sniper" rifle but not a true Sniper rifle.
The good news is that for 800-100 yards you don't need a real Sniper rifle.
Look at Remington and Savage bolt actions, You should save up more for your scope, you can easily spend 1K on a good, not top notch scope.

Mosin Nagant in a free floated sporter stock with a good barrel.

Put a rail in place of the rear sight and whatever optics you want.  Throw on a bipod and some match quality ammo.

Done.

Tikka T3 and whatever scope.

Best quality, most accurate rifle for the money that you can buy. I will never shoot as good as my Tikka is capable of.

Forget about the scope in that $1K if you want to go out to 900yds.

I have a cheap vortex 3-9x40 on my 5R for now.

My suggestion for the most efficient route:  Buy a $1000 worth of scope, put it on one of your ARs and and limit yourself to 6-700 yards for awhile (assuming your ARs are 5.56 guns).  Then save up another $1000 (or more) and buy a really nice rifle, and put your really nice scope on it.

I have a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 in .257 Wby and it will shoots 1/2 MOA 5 shot groups with my handloads. The gun itself cost about $500 and I would suggest spending more than $500 on your scope, I have a Zeiss 6.5-20 on it currently and it does the job. I dont qualify it as a "sniper rifle" but I dont know what your enterpritation of a sniper rifle is either.

Whoa-Ho Hold on man. I have a nice 700 already that shoots great groups at 100. I haven't tried it further out yet.
Well you had me running through the mental exercises of replacing it for the one shown at your link.

Are you looking for something that can lob bullets that far or something that can place them with repeatable accuracy? ;)

I'd save more money. For a start, I'd go with a bushnell HDMR for the scope. Bushnell enormously stepped up their game with that scope and I've been hearing rave reviews from folks who own and have been diehard NF, S&B, and other 2-3k$ optics. They are about 1100 new.

As or the rifle, I'm not a fan of savage for a few reasons but I've seen many of their lower end precision rifles shoot great out of the box. Another option would be a rem700 5r model.

Couldn't agree more. R700 SPS with a Super Sniper (to keep it under $1k) until you can swing upgrades. Bell and Carlson stock and the DBM mod is easy to install and is an improvement over the OEM stock.

Savage 10FP in .260, topped with 10X swfa.

.308 is pretty darn good at those distances, but a good 6.5 (with it's great BC and velocity) would take out a good amount of dope and windage guesstimations.

This is a package option from Sniper Central I looked at very closely a couple years back...

I was hot for this, but ended up going another direction. But it's a very viable all-in-one setup right in the money bracket you're talking about. Yeah a little higher, suck it up and save your pennies.
