I was hoping someone could suggest an easy to use remote desktop program.

Not trying to do anything too complex.

Just want to be able to take over my Dads' desktop when he has issues, and maybe operate QuickBooks on my work desktop from home.

My laptop is Win 7, Dads and work are XP Pro.

What do you use?

A Chrome extension?

Something I can download from C-Net?

I was hoping for something easy and cheap

I've tried to use Windows Remote Desktop from Microsoft in the past from Vista to XP without success

Logmein.com

The free version works great.

Yep, what they said.

ETA:  I love logmein, and it makes it easy to remote control if you have the agent installed.  If you want to go with something that doesn't require an agent and more user interaction Teamviewer is a good alternative.

This is what we use at work.  Seems pretty simple and it is free.

This is what I use. You can login through a browser to a computer that has it installed, which I use semi-regularly.

Only if you have a static IP or have a Dynamic DNS service.

ETA:  Not exactly as easy as installing a small app and logging on using a browser (ie. logmein.com).  Less opportunity to open up a newbs computer to outside attacks too.

BTW, do you ever take a look at your router logs?  Mine is always getting attacked from IPs based in east Europe, Russia, and Asia.  No way I'd recommend a newb to open up a remote viewing port without understanding what they're doing.

This is what I use for all family and friends, and even the occasional arfcommer when I'm feeling benevolent with my time.

Yeah, unless you're trying to help grandma configure port forwarding on her router.
