[/quote] That is requires a Yes/No type answer. My US Army 1911 I was issued in 1983 sucked ass. If you could hit anything more than 3' away you were doing good. 
The M9 with shitloads of bullets and brand new was accurate, but feels like crap in the hand. I really like 1911's but for a military gun more bullets would be good. No idea how the 9mm is/was over in Afganistan/Iraq. If they went back to .45 there are better choices than a 1911. Yes folks I know SOCOM has some 1911's |

Same here(Nat Guard 1989), but my 1911 looked like it came off the Beach of Iwo Jima

But I won't sell one, either. Someone will be along shortly to post a picture of endless 1911's to answer my rhetorical question, but seriously... How many do you need? I have a RIA 1911 that I carry beating around, and I have a Ruger SR1911 for all other times. All I really need in that category of firearm. |

I have 2 already. Both are 100% reliable with whatever I stuff in them. Wish I had the money to look on the EE for another one. Getting laid off a few weeks ago has imposed a self ban on the FS sections for me.

I sold the only 1911 I've owned. It was nice but I thinned the herd for working stock.
I could buttfuck my Glock, squirt mustard down the loaded mag and play Justin Beiber really loud and it would still function flawlessly. All joking aside, my G30's are more accurate than the "match grade" 1911 I sold and cost me $400 less. |

The only plus in the 1911s column is its ergonomics. I'd love to see a polymer single-stack .45 WITH a large thumb safety; a large sturdy thumb safety is key to a 1911s ergos. And ya, you can put a V-whatever trigger in a HK and get that, sorta, but then they went and fucked up the mag release. Close, though. |

Love my 1911's but I don't like feeding them. 0 malfunctions with one and 0 malfunctions with not shit mags in the other. But I like my glocks too. I have sold more of my Glocks than I have of my 1911's. There is just something about the feel of a 1911 in the hand and the very mechanical feeling (best way i can describe it ) of it when it is cycling, not to mention the superior trigger. But there are some nice ones for sale on EE right now I wish I could justify buying one right now.

I think that the 1911 is at it's core, a simple, reliable military firearm that was ahead of it's time in 1911. Raising it's smithing and construction to a folk art has resulted in an overcomplicated, and overengineered contraption that betray's it's original scope. People can argue for hours about the precise angle of the throating. The fact that they have to argue at all over such a trivial detail has essentially proven that it's design had passed it's zenith and we can no longer produce a relatively simple antique design without resorting to one-upping each other on price and detailed nuances. Philosopihcally, we have entered a zero-sum game where spending thousands of dollars on a high-end 1911 only gives you an object where you can admire the engineering nuances and artisnal knowledge that has betrayed the simple military sidearm of first decade of the last century. I'm honestly surprised that people remember that some of these guns are built to shoot bullets. In a word, they have become silly. Give me a pre-war commercial colt over any high-end custom job any day. |
