I keep buying more than I currently use, due to possible regulation, also because I can.
I know it isnt getting any cheaper, so the phrase "Buy it cheap, and stack it deep", is the main reason I do it. |

Guns are only poor clubs without ammo. Just had another 3K wolf 7.62 dropped off today from Aim and I really didn't need anymore

Just because we can? That said, I have a few thousand for each caliber but for years and years I would buy it as I needed it and never had any on hand, not even a box. It wasn't until I joined up here did I start feeling the need to keep a decent amount on hand. |

For all and none of those reasons.
Mostly because we can. I shoot a lot. I like to keep a buffer on hand in case it's hard to get ammo temporarily. Like now. If there was some type of ban or prices shot through the roof, I could cut back to barely shooting and still have enough to last a long time. |

I got mine because I found good deals on the stuff back before prices went out of sight with Clinton's ban on imported mil surplus.I've worked away at getting rid of my milsurp but I really would like to be able to restock before I blow through all of it.

We buy food for the fridge and cabinets to last awhile, but it's not there for SHTF....although some do that too. I just like having plenty on hand for range time and JIC. I don't want to have to go to the range and buy ammo, nor do I want to go to the local store and find out the caliber I need is out of stock which equals no range day for me. There's also those times where people panic and start buying all sorts of ammo up (like elections) and then my ammo purchases are few and far between when I can find them.
I don't have nearly 10% of the ammo most people have on here but I have WAY more than your average gun owner. It's consumable like you said, so it's not bad to have a decent amount on hand since you know you're going to be going through it. This all depends on if you actually shoot your guns either. Many people go to the range once a month or maybe even once a year so to them storing a bunch of ammo is pointless. If you go a few times a week and bring 1-3 guns each trip, the ammo goes away pretty quickly. |

Well, when a fellow buys a stack of cases of .308 for 140 bucks a case and now they're 450, it makes said fellow look pretty smart and able to actually enjoy his hobby without wincing at every pull of the trigger.

About 12-13 years ago 1K of non corrosive 7.62x39mm cost $69. It is now $210 per K and rising again after current inventories are exhausted.

Partially to save money - it will only get more expensive as demand increases, demand for copper increases, the dollar loses value, and more regulations are put in place.

buying in bulk is cheaper and I pick up what I can when it's on sale because in my time, I've never seen it get cheaper.
Remember those 525 boxes of .22's for just under 10 bucks just 4 years ago? remember them two years before that for under 8? 
*ETA...I also remember buying brand new Norinco SKS's for $89 and cases of ammo for $79.

I still haven't figured out how to set up a process to get out the old primers and then to convert the primer pockets to accept Boxer primers so I can reload all that brass. Wish I still had access to one place I used to deal with that accepted used brass when you bought their Black Hills reloads. |

For me it has always been for a hedge against inflation. If I could know for certain the price would never rise and that it was always there when I wanted to or needed to buy some I wouldn't bother buying in any quantity, but the reality is prices keep going up and availability can be spotty.

Some people would say I have a lot. I intend to use it at the range in time. I refuse to ride the rising and falling tides of panic like so many seem to cling to. |
