..sat in my stand Friday eve and Saturday morning over in Chickasawhatchee WMA. As I begin to contemplate coming down, a huge 8 pt walk right up under my jazz...and I literally shat the bed and missed at 20 yds.

Seven hrs of driving and two hours of hiking to completely blow it at the end.

That's why they call it hunting.

I'd still chalk it up as a success.  Due to the drought and blue tongue, our deer numbers are way down.  Like down 60% or more.   We haven't seen shit for deer this year.

Our group of five took three nice bucks within 30 minutes of each other that morning.

Mine would a been the fourth and the largest by far.

I did see a ton of hogs and turkeys though.  Got to enjoy the outdoors as well.

BTDT. With just about every type of animal in the sky, on land and in the water!

The worst for me are fish. Especially after an hour+ battle, the sucker slips the hook or chews the line just enough. Argh......

Your rifle is not set up for 20 yards!

A friend of mine went to Crescent City CA to Elk hunt with a buddy of his that had waited 18 years for an Elk tag, and finally got one.

No luck the entire trip, and last day he spots 3, gets a shot off as they head over a ridge, and hits a calf.  Dressed out under 90 lbs.  Legal kill and all, but fuck, 18 years and gets a calf?!?!

Then again, I was feeling like I had mainlined some crack at the moment and my wits were not present.

Been a pretty strong season in this particular WMA, but then again I think it does consistently rank top 3 in Georgia for productiveness last I heard.  Bucks everywhere.

Hey....a calf eats way better than a rutted out old bull. I'm a big fan of dry cows over bulls. You can't eat those freakin' antlers.

At least you had something to shoot at, I've seen one in the last 2 weekends and was unable to get a shot because the deer was running in heavy brush.  Couldn't even tell if it was a doe or a buck.

I once missed a 4 point at ten yards with an inline muzzleloader.  Only to reload and kill it at 20 yards.  It happens.

My boy missed a doe with his crossbow a few weeks back,  It was less then 7 yards,

Late evening in a blind, 100yd shot that I can make all damn day long anywhere else and I jerked the trigger and couldn't hold steady and missed a nice buck.  All I have seen previous years was doe, and they eat well enough but I guess I was just too excited to take down a decent buck.   Guys heard me cussing all over the woods.

Anyone can miss.  These guys that "dont miss" or "wont ever miss" just havent yet.

My first archery kill came right after I had just missed shooting at the same deer!  I had been in stand since opening day.  Literally lived in the damn tree it seemed.  On the 18th day two deer passed about 150yd in front of me...story of my life, there they were, just too far for a bow.  So I keep my wits about me, maybe theyll work their way back up to me.  Sure enough, they did!  Theyre coming at a full sprint almost!  I draw...and the deer stop running, and take the next 5 minutes to slowly walk toward me.  I took the shot at 20yd and missed just low.  My shoulder was on fire.  Nocked another arrow and put it through both lungs.  Deer ran 30yd and dropped.

I lived in the 'burbs for a couple years. Every day we had a herd of 10-15 come through our yard. They would graze through and sometimes stay an hour or so. You could walk outside and sometimes get within 20 ft. before they spooked.

Moved back out to rural Wisconsin a year ago. From my house I have seen 1 doe, and one buck while walking through the woods behind the house.... in a year.
Prints everywhere, droppings, rubs and beds but they don't let themselves be seen.

Ha ha!  Well here is my story to help you feel better.  I was sitting about 5 miles back in the wilderness during archery elk season this year waiting to link up with my buddy at a certain spot.  It was about 11:30 and I was messing around with my cell phone trying to text.  (sometimes it works when you get up around 12k feet)  I heard something moving towards me through the woods and thought it was my buddy right up until I saw the big 6x6 bull's antlers coming though the trees.  Unfortunately for me (because I was being a dumbass) I had leaned my bow on my pack which I had dropped on the ground about 10 feet away and had sat down on a tree to try and send the message.  The bull walked right by me 8 yards away and I didn't even manage to get a cell phone pic of it.
