Been going over the ads for black friday to determine if thanything would warrant my attention.

This seems to be about the best deal I could find, I'm thinking about picking one up if they don't run out by the time I get there. They're $449 with a $100 MIR which takes em to $349. I've been wanting  a bolt gun in 223 and figure a remington 700 could be a good option.

Hive mind thoughts?

Yeah if it wasn't for that I think I'd do it even if I couldn't afford the glass to go with it right now.

Jesus, I'll be near a Dicks on black friday.  4-12 scope a nice touch even if it's not top notch.

X-Match trigger sucks on the new Rems.  I don't blame Rem for this after being taken to the woodshed over trig problems.  First order of business if you buy one,  ditch the trigger, replace it with 3rd party version.

I saw a real purdy CDL at WallyWorld the other day in a .243.   It did not last long on their shelf.

I fucking hate mail-in rebates.

You probably get the rebate on a debit card, which sometimes won't approve the ENTIRE amount on the card.  They've figured out some people leave change or a couple dollars on the card to expire, so the $100 rebate costs them less.

Bought one 3 wks ago when they had the $50 rebate and a $50 gift card. Was $400 out the door.
It's a good deal. It doesnt have the new weird trigger. Stock sucks. Scope sucks. But for a heavy barreled action it's a deal.
The .223 is a 1/12 twist

I've already cut the barrel to 16" and have a Surefire can on it for my boys first rifle this Xmas.

Buy Amazon gift cards with the remaining balance. You can buy them in any amount. I've purchased several that were under $1.

My AR15 is immensely accurate in 223 and it's not a varmint AR.

Ideally, I would like a bolt action 223 to have as a 'just in case' loaner gun if times get rough. Having one in a caliber I already have would be great.

I used to work at a dicks...

I GUARANTEE they will have at most 1 or 2 in stock. Better get there early.

The store I was at had a couple really good deals advertised on guns, but we never got any of them in stock. That was a rough day.

Good price even for a loss leader.

If you know how to use the card, they work perfectly.

For starters, don't use it to buy gas or at a restaurant.  Gas pumps pre-authorize for varying amounts and restaurant transactions always try to approve at +20% to allow for tips.

Best bet?  Buy a $100 Amazon gift certificate with your $100 prepaid Visa.  You can then use the $100 for anything you want.

LOL no

We were one of the highest grossing stores in the company at one point. It just seemed that the regional management didn't have the lodge and gun sales as one of their top priorities. We routinely had custom orders of $700+ firearms disregarded.

You are doing it wrong.  You just tell them how much you want to use on the card and just max it out at one place. How hard is it to spend $100?

.223 / 5.56 and uses AR mags.

If you dont mind me asking when did you work there? Lodge department has grown tons.  If you dont do the buisness you arent going to get the product... I dont have any problem doing requests and talking to my DM about getting more of certain products.
Only way you can "custom order" is by special order.
Like I said I currently have AT LEAST 12 of the 700 ADL varmits that will be on sale, I also didnt work today so we might have sold a few because they are also on sale this week.

I went to a Dick's on Black Friday maybe five years ago, at like 9 A.M., and there was only maybe 20 people in the store total.  Last time I've ever went out on BF, come to think of it.

That's tempting, though, but Dick's is like 35 minutes away from me.  Dunno if I'm willing to drive that far on such an annoying day only to get beat out, because a deal like that is probably going to draw people in.

That is EXACTLY what happened.  Pep Boys mail in fucking rebate, got debit cards.  One was $30.  Verified the balance online, handed it to cashier and said $30 in gas please.  Declined.  $29 in gas please.  Approved.  Fuck mail in rebates.

Take out the gas tube, cut it, rotate it 180 degrees, reinstall it. AR is now manually operated.
