I'd like to see the S&P hit three digits. My 401k is in cash and short term bonds. With the sucky choices about the only way I can make much is to catch a rising tide.

Yup.  There will be one last run up of the market if it goes down that far.  The run up will be driven by desperation dollars on the last gasp of QE bullshit, but i'll take 2000 to 3000 points of upside and then bail out again.

Keep the presses running.
Its worked so far. Why stop.

I think what has helped keep the Dollar up is commodities are still cheap compared
to a worthless dollar.

I also think China is still buying all the commodities they can and stockpiling.
You can't find a piece of scrap steel around here. All is being sold for top dollar in what is  a
very down construction market has me suspicious.

Not so sure. It could all go under due to the government debt and unreformed entitlements. How did Rome's stock market do?

That said, I'm not saying you should pull all your money out of the market. Where else would you put it? It might be good to have some PMs on hand (and other preps), but I don't see how $100k or $500k could be reinvested in something better then the market. If it all goes it all goes. If you are really, really rich a nice sailboat and a well set up private island might be the ticket.

Yeah, I think bottom here is gonna be bad.

We have Obama, who is doing everythign wrong, and a country that just re-eected him. We have a flatlined economy and massive national debt. And we have an oncoming tidal wave of unreformed entitlements. The most likely outcome I think is hyperinflation.

I just don't see how we will turn this around. It could be turned around in theory, but a POTUS who hasn't had a budget in three years and who has been running deficits over $1T isn't likely to turn it around, particularly when the actions required go against his ideology. Clearly the average voter in 2012 has no clue.

Pounds Sterling, or any bank with a non US/EU currency.

I put it all in a TRP STABLE VALUE FUND (sch b)

I can switch back to my old 2045 retirement fun after 30 days or move it to 2050 at any time, which gives me the same basic effect as going back to 2045.  Then after my 30 days is up I can go back to 2045 if I need to.

There's already a "White Paper" for the government takeover of 401K accounts.

Look up Teresa Ghilarducci and 401K.

They call it "Guaranteed Retirement Accounts."   Step one will be transferring all current 401K and IRAs into a nationalized fund.
