I love Idaho.  Finished work 4:40 on Friday, was hunting by 5:40, took an hour and a mile or two to harvest a couple quail, back home by 7:20.

Before:

And after.

Quail breasts over angel hair pasta, in a creamy cajun sauce, featuring basil grown in the garden.  Bacon goes with everything, right?  Yellow squash from the garden, too.  A little butter and salt on that.  I like it natural.

Smoothbore is the Win 1300 Defender I used to harvest dinner.  Probably looked funny hunting with the short barrel (and no choke,) but shots on quail are often close, and I had never hunted with it before. Belonged to my dad, may he rest in peace.  Went to my brother, but he's living in Japan, so he can't have it, and told me to keep it and use it as needed.  Hunting quail is "as needed."  Handgun is a beloved Hi-Power clone.

Dinner was yummy indeed.

I would work on the plating though. I would move the quail and pasta to the center, and have the bacon going vertical. Then slice up the squash and fan it out clockwise around the quail on a plain white plate. Top it off with some thinly sliced scallion and cracked black pepper.

God how I miss quail hunting here in Centex. Biologists can't figure out what's caused the decline, but they're almost non-existant in the wild here. My favorite game bird, so many days spent flushing them when I was younger... and they just aren't here anymore..

If I'd shot them with the sub2k (in .40) there'd a been nothing for the plate!  But there'd be bragging rights...

+1 for the pink cup so I give it 11/10.

Man enough to kill it, grill it and post the picture using a pink cup on GD.

I went quail hunting yesterday with CDog.  It was my first Arizona quail hunt.  We easily saw over 100 birds.  He got one, I got skunked.

It was very much like a 4000 meter relay with guns.  In the mountains of Afghanistan.  Granted there was no incoming, but by 10am I was hoping someone would shoot me.  My knees and back are on fire this morning.

10 / 10.

No table cloth

No napkin

No reloads

No crystal

No walnut grips on pistol

Also there's a goofy magazine floorplate on that Hi Power.

Poor quality cutlery.

Those poor quail died for nothing.

I supposed the lack of reloads can be overlooked since you posted the actual weapon that made the kill
