Quoted: Now that a bill proposing a ban on .50 cal has been introduced, I read more and more responses like "Oh well... you had to know it was coming" or "They are taking away our rights" BUT I haven't read very many (if any) responses like "We need to mobilize in an organized, concentrated effort to derail this proposed legislation" or "We aren't going to just sit down and let representatives from some other place dictate our local freedoms" It's like you all have just accepted your fates before it even happens. Where's the fight? Where's the motivation? Where's the action plan? I have personally already sent letters to each of my representatives at the local, state, and Federal level indicating my position. I am talking about neatly typed, ink signed letters. I also have started to make direct inquiries to the representative lobby groups like SAF, GOA, etc.. to find out where I can assist beyond mailing a check. Who else has a plan that I can get involved with to at least fight the good fight before waving the white flag. Fuck Fineswine. Fuck Schumer. Fuck all the liberal zealots who think they can just scare me into submission because they rattled their sabre. It's time to start filing lawsuits and initiating pre-emptive strikes against the anti-gun camps. If we wait around for them to make a move before we do anything, we are already in a weakened position. Is anyone hearing me?? tap tap tap... is this thing on?? My friends, perhaps you underestimate me...
I not only write my elected congresscritters (oddly enough, the ones I voted for didn't get into office!) - but even the ones that don't represent me directly! Witness my response to CA Sen Don Perata's Asinine Ammo Tax - his district is Oaktown, I'm in San Jose, and I still demand answers from him! I write in support to Ron Paul quite frequently. I also write in to JPFO, GOA, CCRKBA, and others. AND, I keep trying to work locally thru op-ed pieces, and simple face-to-face contacts thruout the day. Enough conversations get started with me - usually because I wear an empty sidearm holster on a daily basis. Some see my point, some don't, but I think there are a couple more of us every day. I think the anti-gun crowd realizes there just is not much of a market for 50's so it will be easy pickings for them, and I fear they may be right. So if you want one better get it now. It will bite the dust like the Striker shotgun. A, you can keep it, when you die, it is illegial.

Sadly your letters fall upon deaf ears - staple a check for $100,000.00 to each and you might get a call back but there is nothing that you and I can do to change the minds of the politicians.
They know better than us - just ask them. We are helpless, stupid, un-educated little children and without their care and guidance would die in a matter of days. All good comes from the government. The best thing that we can do is join pro-gun organizations but try mention the NRA here and you'll get strung up. Hell, for the $35 a year I spend (and the wife too) they give enough hell to the liberals to be worth it to me. I also belong to four or five other organizations from the California Rifle and Pistol to the Jews for the Preservation of Firearm Ownership. Secondly work on the campaign of a pro-gun representitive if you're out of staples for that $100,000.00 check. |

For me the value of firearms is maintaining the balance of power between the people that would do harm to others incuding the Government and the citizens. Unless some of you grow a sack and are willing to get involved we all will lose that balance and have no one to blame but ourselves. |

I don't bother writing to my two senators, Boxer and Feinstein. That really IS a waste of time.
However, I do write to my state senator and assembley reps. I wrote to the comittee that was working on the .50 cal ban and we defeated it. Also see my tacked bullet-tax thread. I wrote a letter to Perata when he first introduced the initiative to put that tax on the ballot but he never answered me. Other letters I've written (including some that aren't firearm related): Congresswoman Lois Capps 1118 Longworth House Office Building Washington D.C. 20515 Dear Ms. Capps, I was extremely disgusted to learn about our federal tax dollars being used for tattoo removal on gang members in your district. When these people are being unfairly stereotyped because of their gang tattoos, they have to bear the responsibility of their actions. It is not the place of the government, be it federal, state or local to force taxpayers to foot the bill for someone else’s mistakes. What you should do is help one of these people set up a charity group for citizens to donate money to that would help pay for these removals. Federal tax dollars should be going for things that really need it; schools, roads, military defense. You are teaching these people a terrible lesson. “If I screw up again, the government can just make it better.” Flat out WRONG. You need to teach these people that their actions now can affect them for the rest of their lives. Do the right things. Help them set up a charity organization for people to donate to if they want to. Don’t make the taxpayers of this country become a forced charity. The Honorable Lynne C. Leach 800 So. Broadway Suite 304 Walnut Creek, CA 94596 Dear Assemblywoman Leach, I am writing to you today concerning the recently introduced bill AB 2222 (Kortez) which would ban .50 caliber rifles. While the intentions of this bill are admirable, they are also completely misguided. .50 caliber rifles are not the choice of criminals and are never used in the commission of crimes. They are quite large and heavy and are not easily concealed or transported. The price of these rifles is a prohibiting factor in itself, with basic models starting around $2,000 going up to $8,000 or more for sophisticated models. The only use for these rifles are for shooting enthusiasts that participate in long-range shooting competitions. By outlawing these weapons, this bill will be creating criminals out of law-abiding citizens and will do nothing to prevent crime or terrorism. I strongly urge you to vote NO on AB 2222 and I appreciate your support. |

Tauscher 1801 North California Blvd Suite 103 Walnut Creek, CA 94596 Dear Representative Tauscher, I am deeply disappointed by your recent vote to pass the Shays-Meehan Campaign Finance Reform bill. While there is a definite need for campaign finance reform, the items in this bill that bans certain types of advertisements sixty days before an election is just plain wrong and is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment. What part of “Congress shall make no law…” is not clear? Regardless of where the money comes from or what the message is, banning these types of advertisements is unconstitutional. I can only hope that you change your position, for as of now, I do not consider you a true representative of the people. FYI, I'm lucky to have Lynne Leach for my rep. in the state assembly. This is all quite amusing.
Indeed, any efforts to resist only delay the inevitable. How many safety ensuring gun laws are on the books in our increasingly great nation? 20,000? How often do laws (of any sort) get repealed once passed? How often do we stop at one, or two, or any number of attempts to get our way? We have time on our side. Inch by inch, we are winning. Oh, but by all means, don't staple those $100,000 checks to your letters. I don't like blemishes on my checks |

I agree with Liberty86. Little can be accomplished by writing corrupt government officials, or trying to convince judges whose very jobs depend on the state.
At this point in the game, the impetus towards a tryanny here in the U.S. is pretty much unstoppable. Many would argue that we're already there, and I'd be hard pressed to contradict them. History is NOT on our side here, and neither is the limited attention-span and intellect of our "fellow countrymen". As I've said in other posts, your time is better spent shooting, hiking, physical training, learning new skills and networking with others who think as you do. Your primary focus should be on the physical and fiscal security of yourself and your family. No two police states are like, and I don't know how this one will eventually play out. But, if you have taken care of what I said in the above paragraph, you have made a good start. |
