Looks Labby to me! Obviously a mix of a lab and something else. We had a mutt like that for a while, but she was allergic to our carpet, and we had to give her to a shelter (made sure it was a no-kill shelter) But I swear she looked like a lab-weinerdog mix [:D]
Funniest looking dog I'd ever seen. She was a sweetheart though. Good luck with this one, he looks like he'll be a handful. That's part of the fun though! -Gloftoe |

The puppy is a mix of something. I have a pure lab and it's face looks a lot like a pitbull, so that doesn't mean it is a pit mix. The white paws would tell me it is a lab mix with something other than a pit. Cute puppy, they grow like weeds though! LOL Good luck

Definitely a mix... some possible APBT or AMStaff - but it will be easier to tell as he gets a little older. He sure looks happy and healthy though! Eric |

Bear, way to go man! Cute mutt...and the name fits perfectly. That pooch certainly looks like a keeper to me. A visit to the vet for a quick checkup a chew toy and a good home and you've got a friend for life.

Actually, what you have there is a 100%, pure-breed, certified, a-one POS mutt. I gave up trying to figure out what all was in mine a long time ago. Every time I thought I had it nailed down, she grew/aged a little more and she looked a little more like something else. These kind are always the best ones. Keep your damn pedigree papers and give me a dog, not an ongoing genetic experiment.

His ears look like some kinda pit breed.The rest I dont no,kinda HOBO looking.An excellent name by the way.My uncle had a dog named Hobo.People who knew dogs wouldn't even take a guess what he was.His neck was bigger than his head.Couldnt keep a collar on him.He would back up agianst a chain and pull it off.Harness didnt work either.Never did fiqure out how he got out of it.Just as soon as you werent watching he would be up laying on the back porch.I loved that dog,great companion growing up with.
One sad thing about Hobo.My aunt and Uncle took a caretaker job for a rod and gun club asfter he retired.Hobo was about deaf and he was laying behind a car and it backed over him.He got up and laid down by the lake.My uncle didnt want to move him.he called me and asked me to bring my rifle.I told him no.I couldnt do it.Its the only time I ever turned my uncle down.Luckly there was someone there who could.He never felt a thing.My uncle couldn't do it either.This is a man hardend by the Battan death march.Everyone in the club loved that dog.If you raised your hand to anyone in Hobo's family you were about to get your ass chewed on.Smartest dog I ever knew. He named him Hobo because before the war my uncle road the rails.The depression was on and he knew a lot of hobos. |

Thanks guys. The reason I thought he had some pit bull in him is because his eyes have a squinty look sometimes, and his ears look shorter than a lab's. I don't know what he is but he sure is a handful! He did NOT want to stay in the back yard last night. He curled up on the floor next to the wife's side of the bed and decided that's where he wanted to stay. I coaxed him outside and played with him awhile to let him get used to his new surroundings. He chewed on the back door and howled [:)] a bit but I went out and calmed him down a few times. He found a spot to lay down and now he seems to be adapting nicely. [:)]
The kids were surprised when they woke up this morning. They like him and I think he likes them too. [:)] He had some fleas so I gave him a dose of Advantage left over from our last dog. Yup, looks like he's gonna be a keeper. [:)] He already had a run-in with the cat. I turned my back for a second and heard him yelp, and then he ran over behind me with a look like "WTF is his problem?" and the cat looked like an upside down U. [;)] Well the dog and the cat are tolerating each other now. It won't be long before they're chums. [:)] Oh yeah, the puppy likes dry food better than canned. |

Here is a shot of our 5 month old female Lab Sasha. She was about 3.5 months when this pic was taken. I didn't grow up around dogs, but my wife turned me around. Sasha is the coolest dog. That's a fine looking pup you have there.
One of the best dogs I ever had, was a shepard mix who jumped in the back of dad's truck. I'm sure yours is glad to have a home. Treat him good from the start, and he'll be by your side 'til the end. |

My mechanic has a mutt that apears to be about 50/50 boxer/lab. (Unclipped ears. Why why why do people do that to their dogs. grrr) Was cute as a button as a pup, and is a danged good dog now. Wish I had one like it, but mutts is mutts - hard to go shopping for a particular strain.

Hey guys, thanks for sharing your pics and dog stories. I've been a dog person for as long as I can remember and I like 'em all (well, amost all).
Now for a puppy dog update... The puppy found a way to crawl under the house. He found a vent I'd left open for the cat. He wants to be in the house and I think he was trying to find a way to get in. So he would crawl under the house and howl (I think he has some hound dog in him too [:)])... until somebody came and rescued him. I'd like to keep him in the house, but he's not housbroken yet (guess how I found out [BD])..., so at night he has to go in the back yard. So I'm out in the back yard at 3AM wedging a piece of wood to cover the vent until I can get to Home Depot. He pushed the wood out of the way... three times. Very strong dog for his size. It won't be long before he won't be able to fit through the hole. He follows me EVERYWHERE, and he likes to lay down at my feet. He's under the computer desk as I type this. I think a dog house is in order because he seems to like being under things. He barked at and chased the cat a couple times, but the cat gave him another swat on the nose. I'm not worried about the cat. He can take care of himself. [:D] ~4AM... barking chain. The whole neighborhood went alive with barking dogs, and of course our little mutt had to join in. Do you guys think they were welcoming him to the neighborhood? [:D] |

BB my friend,not to long ago IIRC you posted a pix of 'LiLBear',a black akita looking type dog/pup,do you still have it too? I was awol-ar15.com for a few months this winter(SpecOpsCalled)[;)].Good luck with this one, I've always preferd adopting strays/pound dogs too.

Nice pup. Some pitbull in there I think. But that's a good thing. Pit's are very healthy, strong and stable dogs. Great with kids. It takes a hell of a lot of abuse to turn a pit mean. Yours looks like a good fun dog.
May I recommend a book at your public library called SuperPuppy. It has all the important facts on raising a dog. Including the housebreaking in a transport crate method. The only good way to do it BTW. |

bolt, you might be thinking of DVDTracker's dog. His dog is a Chow mix named Bear. I mentioned that I used to have a Chow named Bear too, so maybe you got our posts mixed up.
Thanks for the advice on crate training guys. I used to have one of those big airline transport boxes but I sold it a few years ago. SuperPuppy.... hehehe [:)] |

Sprayboy, it appears everything you know about dogs you learned from watching the same media nitwits that tell us guns are bad and shark bites are an epidemic. I have three kids, two of them under 7 years old. I would not have brought the dog home if I thought they would be endangered.
Just a few facts... crossbred dogs are typically less aggressive than purebreds, and healthier overall for that matter. IMHO socializing a dog when it's a puppy is more important than breeding. Dogs that bite are typically unneutered males that are chained up in the back yard and were never properly socialized to people and other animals. ANY dog breed not properly raised may be aggressive. Case in point: I had a Chow for nearly 13 years, and Chows are near the top of the list of biting dogs. He wasn't aggressive because he was socialized when he was a pup. He challenged me [b]one[/b] time, and I showed him who the alpha male was. He wouldn't come near me for two days, but I guess he thought about it and decided he could live with the arrangement of not being the top dog. He never challenged me again, and he was the sweetest dog you'd ever know. People would invite us to their homes and ask us to bring Bear. He was an excellent watchdog and very protective. I miss him a lot. Best dog I'd ever had, and I must have had 30 or 40 dogs down through the years. Now for a pup update. The hobodawg is in crate training, and he is doing very well. He eliminated in his crate once, but that was because I was at work and my wife went to the grocery, so nobody was home to let him out. He almost always eliminates for me when I take him outside, and he's pushed the back screen door open and gone in the back yard by himself a few times. I'm trying to get my wife on the same page as far as crate training goes. It only seems he's been a problem when I'm not home. Oh, BTW, the hobodawg and the cat are getting along famously now. They sniff each other and can walk by without getting all medieval on each other's ass. [:)] |
