13 people, on a motorcycle?????

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/07/24/13-die-in-china-as-overloaded-motorcycle-crashes/?intcmp=obnetwork

BEIJING –  Chinese state media say 13 people were killed and seven hurt when an overloaded three-wheel motorcycle crashed off a bridge in southeast China.

The official Xinhua News Agency reported that the vehicle was traveling along a rural road in Fujian province when it fell off a stone bridge Tuesday morning.

A man who works for the Shouning county news office, who would give only his family name Zhong, says the vehicle was overloaded with passengers. That's a common occurrence in rural areas where villagers have no other way to travel.

No other details were known on the crash. Serious road accidents are common in China where vehicles are not properly maintained and laws are often ignored.

Think of a cart or rikshaw attached to the motorcycle and it becomes a little clearer.

It's a way of life in countries where cars are too expensive and small motorcycles are a cheap alternative.

I guess it's common over there. Just seemed like a clown car and motorcycle mixed it up for a poor result. At least when you hear of this in India or Paki they're on a bus or train. Not poking fun at their tragedy at all,  it's just the bizarre nature of it.

Tuktuk style vehicles are often made out of motorcycles.  As noted, lots of folks use them in third world countries.

I took a business trip to India.  Its common there to get the whole family on the family scooter and go zipping down the highway.   Dad drives,  oldest child in front of him,  mom on the back sitting side saddle and holding the baby.  No one wears a helmet.

The families should sue the motorcycle manufacturer. There was no warning sign on the bike and who even anticipated riding with 13 people on a bike over a stone bridge could have fatal outcomes?
