Does anyone know of a video editor that will allow me to cut a large MPG file into several pieces?

I use this for all my DVD ripping (and downloading needs. It will allow you to break that shit down as well.

What's a full system going for these days? $50,000? Media Composer or more than 50 new guns or a Hummer?

Virtual Dub is free and works pretty well.

TMPGEnc lets you encode MPEG2 from MPEG1s, AVI's and WAV's:

it has a 30 demo license, but there's a crack out there.
