Oh, like wearing a firearms shirt in Conyers is going to distinguish us from the local yokels, huh?  Riiiiiiiiight.  [;D]

I'll be there.  Look for a silver Ford Taurus with Gwinnett plates, and that'll be me.

...or the 6'6" young bald guy.

I'll be at Cracker Barrel around 8:00 am to get us a table so if whoever plans on meeting for breakfast let me know so I can tell them how many we'll have. And wear a firearms shirt![:D]

Sweep, Just checked the Ga DNR web site for any info they might have on the range.  They do not list a Charlie Elliot Range.   ????? Might it be shown under another name?

Hey the_reject

I think I can borrow a couple of stands from my local range.  How many do you think we need each?  They are just wooden IDPA stands but if someone will bring a staple gun we can attach targets to the cardboard "sillouttes"

Would the range owners be upset if a slug accidentally KO'd their target stand?  That's the only thing I'd be concerned with.

(edit: I've seen what 12Ga slugs do to 4x4 landscaping timbers, which is why I'm asking.)

I can bring a staple gun, though...  [:D]

no, no,  these are cheap -O- stands made from 1x1 boards and have a somewhat sturdy base.  We use them for our IDPA shoots and belive me they get shot all to hell.  A couple of bullts wont hurt (12ga might do some damage, so just aim small miss small) but it wouldnt be a big deal.  I'll just give 'em a couple of dollars if they get too messed up.  I help out a lot there so they wont mind.

Sounds like a bargain, then.  I'll be sure to chip in a few bucks if I somehow manage to blast one all to hell and back.  [;)]

btw, I was thinking about picking up some targets, any suggestions, any preferences? I can cut up some cardboard boxes for the target stands if needed, just let me know a general size.

Edited to ask - Would anyone mind if I bring my digital camera? I can also bring a polaroid(got lotsa film) if someone is interested...

I'll have to see if I can scrounge up a few cardboard boxes, then.

Also, I have a few old ammo cans I bring for brass clean up, but I'm thinking we might need some 5 gallon bucket! I'll bring a few of them too.

Well, in that case, I guess I'm on staple gun and target detail!  lostwildcat is bringing a few stands for the "close up" work, you got the cardboard boxes (I'd have some, but I last moved over two years ago), and Sweep is bringing some 5 gallon buckets...

the easiest thing for a target stand at this place is to pull up one of those real estate signs that are all over the place. everyone uses those things there. just step on them and they go into the ground.

on the ranges, there are pipes in the ground. roughly 1" in diameter. 2 pipes for each bench. on the 100yd range, the pipes are every 25yds. on the 50yd range, about every 15yds in think.

Y'all go read this article:
http://www.onlineathens.com/stories/072002/new_20020720060.shtml.  I e-mailed this guy and told him what I thought of his lack of knowledge.  I left it with the possiblity of maybe inviting him to our shoot to get a different perspective of this rifle and the people that own them.  I gave him no details of when and where.  I forwarded my e-mail to Sweep for him to peruse and also wanted you guys to read the article and let me know if you would want to bother to try and educate this guy if he is willing to come.  I won't give him a final invitation unless you guys want him to come.

I wholeheartedly agree.  And that would make for some bad press if we ended up p!ssing in some guy's cheerios just by our showing up to the range.

Plus, sounds like this guy would not be easily convinced. Maybe if you can keep in touch with him and then invite him to the 2nd or 3rd get together we have. Maybe by that time we'll should know enough about each other and can work on the guy as a team.[:D]

Heh...  Precisely!  That, and I need to finish breaking in the Ruger 10/22 anyway.  It still has a tendency to stove-pipe on ejection - this has gotten a lot better since the first time I shot it, but it still does it occasionally.

Probably only has 150 rounds through it so far.

Going to bring the new M4gery, which has only been fired about 60 rds at 25 yds, for prelim sightin.  Also going to bring out the Air Force .22 unit to see how it does in a 1/9 twist barrel.  Has always been quite accurate in the 1/12 CAR.  May also throw the .308 Valmet in the car, tho I'll probably only drag it out if I get bored w/the AR.

Am I correct in assuming that we have enough guys bringing cardboard backing stuff, or do I need to scrounge some up?

Really looking forward to Saturday.  Been years since I was at a group shoot. [:D]

Box Check -

I double checked the boxes, I have and can bring these:

10 - 17 3/4" X 17 3/4" #3 Boxes
3  -  5.25 cubic foot Dish Pack Boxes
3  -  Wardrobe Boxes

I also have 2 large monitor boxes that are not broken down.

Any or all of these can be carved up as necessary. I have a fresh roll of packing tape and I will bring a box cutter or two. Good thing I am not flying...well...not leaving the ground at least. [;)]

Let me know if I can bring anything else.
