Do any of you computer gurus know where I can find a win32 console application (GUI is ok, I guess) to compare two directory trees as well as the files within the trees? I want something like the DOS 'FC' command, but with a '/s' switch. I prefer a console app so I can redirect stdout as need be. Any ideas?

ZD Net used to have an app called Dupecheck.  You would compare two directories to see if the same file was in both places, or not.  File names didn't matter (optionally, as it would look at contents).

I seem to recall it had a few different view modes as well.

Try the download section of www.zdnet.com.  They had a couple dozen listings under duplicate file check.

So windif won't cut it for you?
it can compare two directorys down to the file level. And files down to text.
