Many considerations here: pure sentimentality, function, looks, economy, or any combination of those and many other factors.

As much as I like the black rifle, I think mine is the M1 Garand.

First real semi-auto produced in massive quantity; used to great effect in WWII (quite possibly a deciding factor), ooooh WOOD; that cool sound the clip makes on ejection; powerful (30.06!)and accurate; the list goes on.

Let's hear it!

I just cracked out my standard M1A today for the first time in a couple of years (didn't fit the training/competition regimen).

It was better than I remembered it to be.

Gotta love the look of the wood stock, large 20 rd. mag, fiberglass handguard, and long flash suppressor.

Pa had one in southeast Asia and I've been in love ever since.

My .308 Garand from Tony at Orion7 is absolutly the sweetest-shooting M1 I've ever shouldered.
Plenty of power with relatively low recoil. Good balance and good looks.
And, the most accurate, non-sporting rifle I own.

It has to be the my AR15 for me it was one of the reasons I joined the army so I could shoot one of those cool black rifles.

Scoped Remington 742 Woodsmaster in .30-06 with high grade wood stock, for sentimental reasons. This was handed down to me by my father as my 1st deer hunting rifle. He logged 42 deer with it before buying a Browning BAR in the same caliber.

Me likey, the MP5SD. Always wanted one since I could remember. Compact. Packs a considerable punch for its size. Get's the job done urban style. And since I am an urbanite, it will suit my purpose. 10 on the cool factor and reliability. Can have accessories galore if needed. Reasonably priced ammo. Easily concealed. Can be handled easily by both male and female. What else can you ask from a firearm.

you got some good choices there, and was tough to choose between the M14's and M1.

but nostalgia wins this one..the M1 Garand [:)]

My first love was AR15.  Then I dated the Glock30.  I found my soulmate, my true love  when I met Remington 700 PSS .308win.  I have since then flirted with Mossberg 590A1 but I returned to Remington700 PSS and my heart will always be with her.

I would say a M1 Garand(after trying out FrankSquid's Navy issue rifle![:D]) but the CMP hasn't delivered my Service Grade Springfield yet, or the M44 Mossberg .22LR either!

My favorite for now? [flame]AK-74[flame], because it scare's the hell out of the anti-gunners even more than an AR-15![devil]

The Garand is my favorite. It has that certain cachet. If things go south, I'll grab the AR.
