I know, I know, only marginally more manly than a Baja. But seriously, if you "don't need that much truck" and this is going to be a daily that you might have to haul a wife and two kids in, a Ridgeline makes a boatload of sense. As a "daddwagon", everyone I know who owns one loves it.

+1 right here! Brother got a 2001 F250 2WD Extended cab with 177k for 5k out the door

the 7.3 PSD is amazing.

You can get a whole lot of truck for 18k used

I went looking for a 250. Found and bought a 350.

For 18K you can get the truck and have left over for upgrades or repair/replacement to get it into/keep it in pretty darned good working order.

The 7.3 is an awesome engine.

If you WANT a truck buy a 150. If you can USE a truck get a 250. If you NEED a truck get a 350.

If you go full size, I don't think you can find a new truck anymore for $18k. Even the stripped down work trucks start at $20k+ now. You'll have to go with something used.

If you need a 1/2 ton, you're going to be looking at F-150s and Silverados in the 05-07 range to keep you in budget, (assuming you want extended/crew cab). You can save a lot of money buying a 2WD if you can get by with it, and might can go a year or two newer.

If you want a mid-size truck, the Tacoma is the one to buy, IMO. Colorados and Rangers are ok, but not fantastic.

Not necessarily. The used car market is nearing the top of a bubble right now. The spread between new vs used is extremely close right now and interest rates are extremely low. Combine that with a warranty, and now is a great time to buy new instead of used, if you can afford it.

Those who passed math class can also see when it's worth paying a little more for a significantly better product.

ETA: For what it's worth, I'm currently truck shopping as well. If my wife's car was paid off, I would definitely spring for a brand new truck at 0% right now. As it stands, I can't handle the payment on a new truck and my wife's, so I'll have to stick to used. But if the market doesn't change in the next couple of years, I may upgrade one or both of our vehicles once we get the principal paid down a bit more.

Yeah I know, but OP hasn't mentioned what he's *DOING* with said truck. If he's hauling trash and 2X4's, he doesn't need an F250 with a 7.3PSD. That's just a waste of truck.

eta: And I'd drive an Oddessymino 10 times out of 10 over a lame duck tacoma. And then buy a nice motorcycle with the change I had left over.

Buy Japanese if your not towing. You will be hard pressed to find a low mileage 7.3 ford worth buying. I settled for a 06 duramax because the 7.3 market is competitive around here.

Shouldn't be more then 10k, give you 5k of gas / repairs / customization, and 3k for a machine gun.

They stopped using the 22r in early 95'. The new motor that would be found in that truck is something like 3rz.

If you aren't towing over a 5K pound trailer I say Ridgeline.

I know many people that have them that live in town and need a "truck" on occasion (I am one of them). Of those that own a Ridgeline one guy sold his thinking he needed a real truck and bought an F150. He had it a year and traded it for another Ridgeline as he just didn't use it and hated the ride. He also towed some heavy loads (5K+ pounds) long distances with his old Ridgeline. While I don't agree with that the Ridgeline is a good truck for suburban life.

If you need to tow big loads then nothing will do that is less than a 3/4 ton with a diesel for ease of towing and mileage in my opinion.

A buddy did his best to kill it, including using paint remover or shit like that for fuel (free at our local hazmat drop off site), but it just wouldn't die. Multiple cross country trips, accidents, and other forms of physical abuse and it still ran.

Yeh - As one of ARFCOM's biggest cheerleaders for buying used, I gotta agree.

Right now, used prices are absolutely insane!

Unless you can live with a 10+ year old vehicle, it's pretty hard to make a convincing case for not coughing up another $3-5K on a brand-new model.
