hatchetman, some people really like the SA mount and others despise it. I fall into the second group. While I did not have your particular problem with the SA mount I did have others. Part of the problem, IMHO is that the mount is aluminum whereas the top quality mounts are all steel. I switched to the ARMS #18, which an absolutely superb unit.

I'm in the first group. The aluminum is about 1/4 inch thick - I don't know about your AR's but mine are all made of aluminum about 1/32 inch thick and haven't had an issue with them or my M1A mount. My car's engine block is also made of aluminum come to think of it...
I use a BAS (Big *** Screwdriver) with a huge rubber grip to tighten mine in place. The screws came to face the 4:00 position a couple of years ago and haven't moved yet. I use a set of ARMS #22 quick detachable rings to remove my scope when needed. |

Paul, it was not my intent to disparage aluminum per se. I also used a BAS and never had a bolt come loose. The problem I had was that the aluminum cross slots did not hold up to recoil. I was using Leupold QRW rings, which have steel cross bolts. The recoil caused the bolts to rapidly deform the aluminum in the cross slots destroying the mount's ability to maintain zero. I have never had a problem since I switched to the steel ARMs mount.

I just received and mounted the ARMS M21/14 Mount Foundation (#18), ARMS Dovetail/Stanag Throw Lever Mount (#19A) and the ARMS STANAG Rings (30MM) (#21). I ordered and received all items from Arizona Gun Runners. This system was very easy to apply and no special tools required. I am planning to put a Leupold VARI-X-III 3.5x10x40 Long Range M3 with bullet drop compensator. Does anyone have any Pro's or Con's about this sytem or any tricks that I should be aware of?

My error was that i was probably to eager to cash in on a deal (the loaded coupon) and should
gone with an arms mount.The 6X40 SA scope is backlogged til may.Oh well thanks for the info guys. guess i'll burn up more .223 ammo |

I never could get my 3rd to zero properly, so I just bought a Scout and use the old M1A for iron sights. Eventually I will get one of the other mounts.
