Depends on where I am.

I know of certain areas where ANY overage can get you a stiff ticket, and others where units will light you up to get you to move over so they can overtake your 80 mph in a 70 with their 90+.  On a certain highway down from where I used to live they changed the speed limit in a 12 mile section from 65 to 55 while I was on the boat for a month.  Took a different route home and when I went back on the boat, BAM, ticket. 75 in a 55, which had been a 65 shortly before and for the prior 10-15 years. In all fairness, 75 was still speeding, but rarely ticketed on that stretch unless in one of the school zones during the posted times.  I guess revenue was down?

My wife tells me I drive like Pa Paw, but she got her last one fixed.

A cop offered to fix mine, unsolicited, and while I waited on him, the fine went up $36.  Last time I accept any offers like that.

I know I do in the city where I live, but on post where I work - that's another matter.  Last ticket I got was 2 years ago for doing 35mph.....in a 35mph zone!!

I only speed on the freeway when every other car in traffic is speeding. Wont break ten over though.

I speed every day. Consequently, I got my first speeding ticket a few weeks ago and for all things, it was for 75!! Who the hell gives a ticket for ten over? I'm usually fifteen or twenty over if I can do it safely. Ugh. At least it wasn't too expensive and when I told the CHP officer I had a bunch of guns in the back he said he didn't give a shit as long as I wasn't a felon, which I assume he knew already when he ran my plate.

ETA: I'm a freeway speeder, not a neighborhood speeder. I have no sympathy if you get a ticket going 40 in a 25.

My Lieutenant told me once, "Don't ticket someone who drives the same speed you do when you're off duty".

I rarely write speeding tickets; when I do they are usually for grossly over the speed limit (15 plus) or driving carelessly/recklessly.

The most recent time I drove the speed limit, I was pulled over and excused of doing 10 over.

Well, around here, the old people and the baptists don't speed.  In fact, they usually do 10-15mph under the limit for extra safety, especially when they're in front of you on two-lane roads with few passing opportunities.

As long as those who wore their seat belts get priority for treatment, and I don't have to pay anybody anything because of his choice not to wear a seatbelt, I don't give a shit what he does.

I drive 5-10mph over the limit most times.  People who are blazing along 15+ deserve the tickets they get.

15+ over can still be perfectly safe in some areas.  In fact, sometimes it's safer to go 15 over than to obey the limit.
Drive through the People's Republic of Illinois, you'll see what I mean right about the time you're on a highway and the speed limit decreases for 1/4th of a mile to 35mph from 55mph as you go through a turn.

I'm good at math so I don't speed.  I hang out in the right lane usually right at 60-65 mph.  The time gain is insignificant, and I get much better fuel mileage at 60 mph than I do at 70/75 mph.

10 mile drive @ 75 mph = 8:00 minutes = - 1:13
10 mile drive @ 70 mph = 8:34 minutes = -39 seconds
10 mile drive @ 65 mph = 9:13 minutes speed limit = starting point
10 mile drive @ 60 mph = 10 minutes = +47 seconds
10 mile drive @ 55 mph = 10:54 minutes = + 1: 41

Sage advice. I rarely wrote speeding tickets when I had radar, for that reason and others.

In GA you have to be going 15+ in most cases to attract any negative attention from an officer. Consequently I keep it under that speed and have very few problems.

Pretty much the same on Long Island. 65 - 75 is typical and people will blow by you at that speed.

It's hard to speed in Oregon.

Most everyone else around here seems to drive 10-15mph UNDER the speed limit.  They apparently believe their cars will explode if they ever reach the actual speed limit.

My pending two weekend vacation courtesy of the local county for reckless driving (excessive speed) has had me rethink the speeding thing.  Granted I was doing a bit more than the OP is talking, Virginia is not the place to push your luck.

My time management skills are fine tuned to a razors edge, I'm retired. I never speed. Nothing tickles me more than to putt around during the day running my errands and seeing in the rear view a out of control soccer mom in her Tahoe pounding on her steering wheel, running late to get little Suzi rotten crotch to cheer leading practice. Be assured though, I never venture out during rush hour to impede those going to and from work and feeding my social security account.

On the highway, I ride with traffic. No faster

In the city I usually do the limit.

I constantly dive 15 MPH over the speed limit. ( it's just a suggestion for people with slow reflexes)

I make L turns on red if no one is coming after stopping. ( fuck the stupid light I can see no one is around for miles )

Same thing for a red light at 5 AM, I'll stop then go if it is clear. ( fuck the stupid light I can see no one is around for miles )

I'll pass on a double yellow on my way to work. ( because I know the road and I can see far enough ahead to tell it's clear.)

<––––––––––- only had 1 ticket in my life

The yellow 'speed limit' signs are, Yellow=cautionary/advisory, NOT regulatory.

So that 50 MPH off ramp YELLOW speed limit sign? ignore it....

Had a Maryland state trooper pull me over for it a long time ago.. I asked him what color the speed limit sign was, he told me it was yellow... Advised him of the difference between white and yellow signs... Went round and round, even had him look it up in the road bible... Only confused the poor fellow more...  Finally had to call over a supervisor, who laughed it off.....  Had a nice discussion with the fresh trooper on the difference between statutory signs and advisory signs... :D

Rookies without their FTO...

So what you're saying is that you live in la-la land.  In addidion, you then don't support his choice of not wearing the seatbelt.  I agree with you and I'll take it one step further.  Seatbelts should be mandatory, and if you fail to wear one and are in an accident, the other party is not responsible for your injuries beyond what they would have been had you been wearing the seatbelt.  This can be difficult to determine though, so it may be best to require unbuckled drivers to carry additional insurance on themselves because the other party will not be responsible for injuries at all.
