Howdy All,

I have an F150 Extended Cab 4x4 that I'm about to relace the shocks on. I'm trying to get some [b]first hand[/b] opinions on some shocks that are well suited for this vehicle. I have no lift kit of any kind on the truck. I would like a shock that is slightly more stiff than the factory shocks.

Recommended to me so far have been Monroe and Rancho. Strange but one place I wentr to that sold Monroe actually said that light trucks tend to "eat the Monroe shocks". Go figure. [shrugs]

Any feedback you might have would be appreciated.

My boss has a classic 56 F-100 that he just put Edelbrock IAS shocks on. Pricey, but he swears the ride is incredibly improved.

KYB Gas-Adjust. Great ride on a light truck, great price and great warranty. Got mine on recommendation of friend who runs the best local repair shop. It's what he runs on his truck.

Arock, I've used KYB on a truck years ago. Although they're very good shocks they're too stiff for a truck in my opinion.

Mine are on a K1500 Heavy-Half Suburban. I like the ride on that vehicle.

My friend's trucks are C1500 P/U's and the ride on them isn't harsh.

YMMV.

Rancho 9000, adjust the ride YOU want. Anything else and you are stuck with the ride they give you. I have a set on a Doddge and LOVE them. Under 250 to your door for all 4 too.

KYB or Bilstien's.
You will not be disappointed.

I have used both Monroe and Gabriel shocks on various trucks. Each have performed well.

Hsmith, how many miles do you have on those 9000's? I'd like to know about the long term durability of them.

Also, where did you order them from?

When the stock shocks on my Nissan crapped out after 3 years, I put on a set of KYB gas-adjust shocks. That was in 1990 and the things are still stiff. Ain't nothing better for a light truck.

I tend to use KYB or Gabriel for light trucks. Monroes go like popcorn when used in anything that hauls any sort of cargo... KYB and Gabriel gived me excellent service on any truck up to and including heavily loaded 1-tons. In fact, my last work truck (Chevvy 1-ton contractor bed, GVWR 14,000#) got Gabriels on it when it needed shocks, and still had them on when I sold the truck!

CMOS - If you feel KYB's are too stiff you might look into Monroe Magnums...they tend to be inexpensive and give a soft ride. If you plan to load the bed up, Rancho's are another good choice...

I run Gabriel Air Shocks on my F100 (Swamp Thing). That way, I can adjust load/handling characteristics at will (I have shop air, though). It depends on the mission.

I would also go with the Gabriels, I currently have them on my 96 Bronco. I replaced the stock shocks 4 years ago and the Gabriels are holding up fine.
