I want to get my first AR.
Currently, I own a Ruger MK2, and a SAR-3.

And no, I am not in DC, I am in Florida.

Any recomandations as far as brands at a reasonable cost that work well with big mags?

Can't speak to Armalite, never owned one.  Otherwise - Bushmaster!!!

Always ready to recommend the Bushmaster Dissipator...

A3 flat-top with full front sight.
Optional A3 removeable carry handle with sight.
Hogue grip & forend kit with a swivel stud installed.
New teleSTYLE stock installed.
Redi-Mag extra magazine carrier installed.
I recommend the clean bbl. end for the reason of being able to clean the crown of the muzzle, but, if you must have a muzzle blast enhancer on the end of the bbl., the AK style is a good one.

Bushmaster will charge for the parts, but, the installation is free.  This rifle would be very versatile in this configuration.  Sights or optics; free floating bbl.; pre-ban look; fairly light and handy; etc.

THEN AGAIN, THE AR15.COM VERSION IS A HELLUVA DEAL AND WOULD BE ANOTHER EXCELLENT OPTION...
Lots of options could be added later.

Sooner or later we will all fall victim to the TROUBLECAUSERS.....my own problem is that i simply cannot sit in front of this machine for any length of time.... some of us have to WORK for a living.......[uzi]

Can't really speak on the others, since I don't own them.  But I can highly reccommend the Colt.  In my experience they are referred to as "the best" for a reason.
